Did a tire rotation the other day and it looks like its time to do the front brakes. Only 37k but running 35s, off roading and, towing a boat in the summer have taken their toll on the OEMs. If memory serves me correctly StopTech was the way to go on my 2nd Gen. Is that the general consensus on the 3rd Gen for an upgrade?
Looking at these https://www.extremeterrain.com/stop...ojx92Ml2_DW6k9o3RExoCtFUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Hoping to get a little better life and stopping power.

They will dissipate the heat better, but the pedal will feel the same.

Big thing is quality parts, and service the rear shoes during the replacement.

Are you running 17s? You could upgrade to the 4runner brakes for a big change.

This is sold, but basically its this.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...us-gx470-ebc-rotors-yellow-stuff-pads.655017/

13WH is the caliper size, so its larger pads and brake rotor diameter.

That would be nice but I am on 16" Rims.
I got lazy doing the rotation and didn't inspect the rears...damn wheel spacers. lol
Maybe they're overkill, but then again that hasn't stopped me in the past.

Rotors like that tend to be noisy, but you need to sling the heat out while stopping the big tires.

The other choice is the 1st gen tundra brake upgrade, but its such a mild upgrade, you may as well get the stoptech set and be done with it.

Drills and slotted rotors can growl, squeal, etc. Not everyone experiences the same from them. I find the small holes fill up with brake material and make a lot of noise.

So a pressure washer on the rotor might be enough, but it really varies.

I think its worth it with your big truck and the towing.

The rims I run completely hide the rotor...so I'd have to remove the tires to hit with the pressure washer. Kinda reconsidering to be honest. Squeeks, rattles, and other noises send this guy into a madman.

This is the best resource for brake upgrades, IMO.

Aren’t the brakes more or less the same from the 2nd gen to 3rd? So if you got that consensus from the 2nd gen wouldn’t that also be applicable to the 3rd gen?

Just did new rotors and pads on my 2020 for right at $200. Very easy DIY job.

I wheel and pull trailers in the mountain west. Keep it easy. Keep it cheap. Keep it stock.

Summit has the best price on the PowerStop K137-36 front kit. I made the mistake of ordering from an Ecommerce seller who direct ships from PowerStop. PowerStop packaging was crap - most of the parts were lost during shipping (UPS) and now two weeks later I am still waiting for a refund. Advice - buy local if you can and be confident you leave the store with all the parts in hand. Roll the dice with shipping.

    ^ this!
if it stops good, the extra wear is just the cost of doing bidness with large tires and/or towing.

i just ordered the Z36 set although i dont tow often, brakes are something that if you over do it you will never regret it when the time comes. Also at 37k miles but i have a terrible shimmy in the front when braking at highway speeds

The hardest use of my brakes has always been with a loaded truck pulling a camper trailer down long, steep mountain grades. I’ve found shifting to S2, S3, or S4 and utilizing the braking effect of the engine is the best heavy-use brake I have. The stock brakes do just fine in combination with this.
