Yakima rack on oem bars. Not for a tent or huge load. But Prinsu and modular is not my style and I’ve been running Yakimas since I was 16.

ive seen this before and wondered, why the expense of the yakima towers and bars instead of just pulling out the bars on the oem rack?

I already had the Yakima bars and attachments, including basket from my last suv. The bars also sit flat. Have you ever tried using the bars of the oem rack? They are curved and not great to actually hold anything up there.

The factory bars are not adjustable. Some accessories like baskets and roof boxes need specific spacing. I'm looking for a small rocketbox and the factory mounting system will not fit on the toyota bars. Could always drill holes and mount with bolts i guess.

Prinsu rack is the way to go. You can add so much stuff it's ridiculous and the attachments are endless. Plus, it's study as hell and you can walk on it (I've used it to get onto roofs and trees lol)

I wonder how difficult it is to install one of those racks. How much drilling and how the holes are sealed up after the bolts go in.

Suppose I'll join. Another Prinsu, which is awesome in my opinion.

Just put a RTT on and now looking for a roof rack. I’m on the fence between an RCI and a Prinsu. Really like the fit of the RCI, the finished look in the rear specifically. I’ll probably just do that to match the RCI rack. I don’t think I can go wrong either way.

    Yakima makes them you need:
    Landing pad 24
    Skyline towers
    Crossbars

Landing pads bolt to the factory holes. You can remove the tower and crossbar when not in use but there will be a visible plastic connector when the towers are off.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w77PP3pt6Ys

you could also install the Rhino ditch rails and use the Yakima system. you do need to drill for the rhino ditch rail.

Awesome thanks for this. I am really curious to try the rhino but just dont drill maybe use some double sided take to hold down the middle. I cant see why drilling is really needed but what do I know.

The attached thread about the ditch rails goes into a lot of detail. Basically, the rail curve is good but not perfect. without the center fastened in some way, there is an arch in the rail and it's loose. I also like the concept of the rail but not the drilling part.

The tape might work, commercial construction uses 3M VHB to fasten metal panels to the exterior of buildings without additional fasteners.
