Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone here was very supportive. It helped. It has hit me much harder then I could ever imagine.

We went to Bush Gardens Williamsburg last weekend. The GF likes fast scary roller coaters, me- not so much. We started on the wooden roller coaster and preceded to get the living snot beat out of us. My back got tweaked and she was getting a sore neck afterwards. I didn't think the $50 price for a 6x8 of the moment was worth it, so I just clicked one for the records.

I did get on the Loch Ness Monster, twice. That was scary/fast enough for me!
I thought that it was pretty amazing that you can walk right up next to this contraption, and right at the double loop-dee-loop!

I liked the log flume ride, more my speed. And the train ride around the perimeter of the park was pretty nice.

Sunday was a quick trip to Jamestown, because it looked like it would be a quick in and out type of viit. I expected to see a placard explaining the ruins of a settlement building, it was WAY more then that. A person could spend the entire day looking and reading everything.

This is a recreation of the barracks building, using only the tools that they would have had with them. Pretty ballsy endeavor, these settlers undertook.

There was a good statue and dedication to Pocahontas, she was used as a token during these times.

A project at work, I had to model the 5 axis router then design guarding around it, but the lower right corner needs to be fully open, no support pole in the way. I will run a cable on a turnbuckle up to a roof truss. No one likes the idea, yet no one can 'splain how the hell you tell 1200 lbs of steel that it needs to just float in the air so that the telescoping doors can open up.

got my dad a Tilley hat a few years ago after he had a few spots cut off his neck/ears - too many years in the sun working construction. kinda pricey but they're nice. good for fishing, etc as they float and there's a small pocket in the crown to tuck your fishing license in. brim is just a bit larger than a boonie so it keeps more of you in the shade
actually on sale at REI, can't beat that price!

My wife and I love our Tilley hats. We use them in the garden or during craft shows. They’re easily washable and hold up well.

but is the bottom chord of the roof truss designed for that kind of load?

Yes. They’re stain resistant, breathe well, and hold their shape through loads of washes. Even holds up well after being stuffed into a pocket.

yes. And yes. Lifetime warranty. (We lost 3 to that wildfire and without hesitation, they replaced them. Had 3, only asked for 2).

    comfort, warranty… worth it!
Regardless, sun protection is the name of the game here. But what fits your budget. And use it!

I plan on getting one for myself next. i have a couple of other wide brim hats but they're darker in color and get a little too toasty on the brain.
there are other styles that are less expensive if you wanted to give them a try. the REI sale goes on through the holiday and i don't think you'll find a better price
