    I thought they suggest replacing the pump with the timing chain not only because it is already accessible but because its an interference engine. something about the pump housing cracking, slipping the chain and smashing valves.. :shrug:

    Water pump is outside the timing cover on a 3.5, 0 chance of this happening.

    If I were the OEM I would not do this simply because of liability. I tell someone to change the water pump after 100K miles. It dies at 90K and damages other things. I will then get sued in today's world.
    If I were the OEM and I was silly enough to make a recommendation, It would be at a third of the part's useful life, just to cover my ass.
