    Matt, your on the right track. I made a arc weld kit from some 2awg wire, battery terminals, ground clamp and rod holder. My leads ended up about 12' long. Which is plenty. As far as disconnecting your battery before welding on the rig. That's almost always done because the first battery pulled is the broken rig.

    They'll be fine in the original sealed packaging. Once they're opened, best to put them into a contained that seals well.
