I recently had a problem this morning with my 06 Tacoma Prerunner. Last night it was running perfect and this morning my wife goes to start it and nothing. Battery is good, there is power to the starter and it has no previous hesitation in starting. I put the key in to start and the motor will no crank over. I believe the relay click so any ideas? Maybe bad ignition? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you put the key in the ignition does the security light go out?

    hello I appreciate the reply,

the security light that is on the dash, the car symbol with the key inside, does flash with the key not in. And as soon as I insert the key in the ignition the light stays on and goes off after about 2 seconds. Also, when I turn the key to on it does not come on. I also have a after-market alarm system. But I do not think it has a system kill or theft deterrent.

No problem. Maybe your starter is bad. You can hit it with a hammer or something if it's not easy to reach and it may start. Also, I know you said the battery is good, but have you had it tested? My truck did the same thing about a month ago. I got in it to go to work and everything lit up, but as soon as I turned the key, all I got was the "click" you mentioned. Luckily I had jumper cables and just used my wifes truck to jump-start it. Replaced the battery and no problems after that.

I did check the voltage at the battery and starter both are good. I did try to jump starting it as well with no luck. This is why I am so confused, I am not sure what to go to next. Thanks for the info! I think it is time I get the 5lb sledge out and hit the damn thing!

Voltage doesn't mean amps are good. You can have a 13 volt battery that can barely do anything.

though 99% of the time a "click" at start up when everything was fine yesterday and a battery reading over 10 volts. Just a bad connection to the battery.

But no jump start eh? Too bad its an automatic. Just for giggles, put a wrench on the front of the engine and turn it.
