:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/dental sufferers and suffragettes. Interesting that we're discussing dental care; my wife just popped a crown loose last night!

When I was working we had all of our insurance through my employer; medical, dental, vision. As I was preparing to retire we looked around for replacements, including dental insurance, but did not really find anything that was cost effective. We used a broker so I feel as though we were pretty thorough. We wound up with a discount card that is accepted by our dentist; it saves its annual cost pretty quickly, and if there is any extra work needed it more than pays for itself. But don't mistake it for insurance!

I must have eaten something yesterday that decided to pick a fight with my intestines at 2:30 this morning. Either that or I picked up one of those intestinal bugs. Still not feeling right 8 hours later. I will be taking it very, very easy today!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! Well, I'm debating if I should go get the Taco inspected, or just wait until the weekday when everyone else is busy.....might just do a whole lot of nuthin' instead. After all, it is opening week for college ball. Been some exciting games already, that I didn't even expect to watch most of.

I get to keep my feet. Apparently, they are not as bad as I blamed them for being. What my wife said was a big cut (just in time for this), he said was a scratch. And I have a lot of other scratches, not blisters or callous. And, professionally speaking, he did say that $2000 is a LOT for fancy inserts. So, I get a note to get some OTC Nervive to try, and where I can buy some "diabetic insoles", which are different than just the store inserts -though they look just the same. And Sketchers with Arch Fit? Good shoe for me. All in all, not what I expected!

And I just sent the on-line pharmacy a WTF email, because my expensive stuff all doubled, and I was SURE that I was already in the hole. After researching, apparently I wasn't. I am still researching those "manufacture will help" deals, but - in general - nothing can be combined with Part D Medicare drug plans.

Oh, that big deal that just passed about capping drug costs? Well, for seniors anyway....it will only start in 2025....with a list of just 10 drugs.

I've been reading the last Several Pages of this thread, and thought I would summarize several conversations into one reply.
I hope everyone has a Safe and Pleasant Holliday weekend. I've been out of work since 2015 on Disability and finally turned 65 in July. So as of August 1st, I'm officially retired and have received my 1st retirement check from the State of NC. They sent me a notice containing information where I can sign up for Dental and Vision plans. Dental is $37.00 a month, and the Vision Plan is $7.00 a month which is not bad. Lucky for me, I get to keep my good insurance and don't have to deal with medicare other than paying for part b. I've already adapted to not knowing or caring what day of the week it is, and my stress levels have been great for the last 7 years or so. Being physically disabled creates limits on what I can and can't do so far as keeping busy, but I have several TLC projects planned for the Tacoma end of Sept early Oct. I can't tolerate these hot summer days anymore, so I've been waiting on the arrival of cooler weather. And thank you Jesus, I haven't contacted Covid as of yet and pray that I never do.

So Everyone stay "Cool", eat plenty of food and enjoy you favorite beverages this weekend.

I’m fortunate as part of my company retirement package I have a supplemental medical plan which they pay 70% of the premium covering both my wife and I. My share of the premium is quite small.Included in it is a dental plan that isn’t the greatest but really isn’t to bad either. In addition it is my drug plan. Almost all our prescriptions cost us $10 for a 30 day supply. Some are a little bit more and some are less and some are zero cost. There is no donut hole with my plan (sorry Mike) Medically the plan pays 100% of what Medicare doesn’t pay after we meet a small annual deductible. We met the deductible in March and since then all visits, tests, labs etc. etc. have been covered by Medicare and Aetna (my supplemental plan) at 100%. Yes I know I am truly fortunate for this medical coverage and fortunate I worked for and retired from the company I did.

I have CIGNA Dental and it does cover 2 checkups and 1 cleaning each year. I am a regular brusher, flosser, and picker because the insurance does not cover fluoride and anti-biotic treatments. Keep your gums in good health.

    Welcome to retirement!

    I will look into this.

    Congrats on the retirement Harry.

Today is a Labor Day cook out with pork steaks, corn on the cob, asparagus, broccoli and pineapple wedges.

Few pics of the pork butt with bone removed and sliced up into 1 in steaks. A great alternative to pulled pork.

It’s our 28th wedding anniversary today. Going out to an upscale restaurant for brunch in a little while. Then mostly a kick back day. Temperatures today through Friday are going to range up to 114. Not much fun being out and about in that heat.
We got married on 9/4/94 (easy for me to remember). I remember my best man was upset we picked that date as it was the opening of dove hunting season and he and I never missed that , except on that day. Doesn’t seem like it’s been 28 years, time flys. Stay cool all.

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Ken!!!

:woot: Just checked a trail cam, it had pics. of several small buck, some doe, and a bear. After what happened last year with blue tongue, I thought there wouldn't be too many deer around, hopefully those smaller buck and the doe will bring some bigger buck in during rut.

I stumbled upon this thread, but can relate to the last few posts. I started on Medicare in June, and the supplement for dental I have, recommended by an acquaintance is of no cost. I wondered what's in it for the insurance co. - from what I understand they do get some kind of stipend from the government. But - you get what you pay for. I had a root canal then a crown done last month. Just about all out of pocket. Fortunately I was able to use HSA funds that were donated by a previous employer for part of it. The rest so far has been on me, just over $1,000. But - surprisingly the supplemental insurance co. contacted my dentist and they're working on getting me a partial refund. My dentist the $37 a month plan that may be the same one CrippledOldMan mentioned. Had I known, I probably would have gone with that. High deductible of course on the plan I have now. I guess you can switch your part D, or whatever the supplemental coverage is called.

Interesting to read other's similar situations and what you have for supplemental plans. Sprig you've got a great deal! Like CrippledOldMan, I'm looking forward to cooler weather. Just got the air conditioning fixed on the Tacoma, still plenty warm here. And with a new compressor it's meat locker cold quality! Hope it stays that way.

Still working - part of the reason I bought the 2007 Tacoma. I traded down, had a 2012 Honda CR-V. I always had a car or SUV and full size pickup truck. Planning for retirement I'll consolidate to just one vehicle. I'll keep my older full size truck while I'm working full time as a backup.
