Good points. Emphasis in bold, mine. It's possible the gauge of the sheet metal on the back-side of the cab is even thinner than that on the doors. Therefore dimensions, and thickness, the back-side will resonate or have a major ("fundamental") frequency response different than that of the doors. If you think about it, the whole cab is just a big resonating cavity, amplifying the sound frequencies that are exciting it, not too dissimilar to a "horn" on an old victrola record player, at least that's how one might think of it simply... Thanks @MountainManGuy for your reply. It will probably help me and others decide what to do first.

for everybody doing the pool noodle. Any concerns with it rubbing the paint off as the body and bed flex? They used to do this sort of thing between the cab window and the canopy over the bed (for different reasons) until everybody discovered it rubs off the paint.

Living in SW Ontario it is a must to undercoat every fall before the white stuff flies. Therefore I have so much residual undercoating in this area that I don't think I need to worry about rubbing the paint off. On that note, I will inspect next spring after 1 year of having this effective mod and report back on this thread.

Does anyone make an insulating blanket for under the hood of the Taco?

My 2022 OR, with a topper, is very quiet, impressively so. (Huge change from the 2ng gen) I do not experience and obnoxious wind noise. Did Toyota change something for 2022?

Dynamat makes a hood liner that I used. The width of 54 inches fit perfectly but the height of 32 inches had to have around 3 inches trimmed off which I used on the firewall. Hope this helps.

Oh cool! I'll check out this hoodliner. Did it help dampen the TRD CAI sound inside the cab when windows are rolled up? If so, do you if it's significant? Can you also share details about the 3M tape you use at the edges of the hoodliner?

    Thanks!

With the windows closed I can't hear the TRD CAI at all. It is totally silent. It also helps that I have 97 square feet of Dynamat, Dynaliner, Dynapad and 55 square feet of closed cell foam and 12 square feet of open cell foam. For the back wall I put Dynamat first, then the closed cell foam on top and finally the open cell foam as a third layer. I think that I have covered every nook and cranny on my truck including removing the wheel well liners to cover the wheel wells to further reduce the road noise. I think that I have my truck as quiet as possible. The 3M tape came from Lowes or Home Depot and did a great job. The hood liner has been on for over 4 years without any separation from the hood. I also used some push pin retaining clips to hold it in. I think that I have posted pictures of everything I have done except for the pool noodle which I will post tomorrow on another thread. Most of these mods were done 5 years ago and I have enjoyed my quiet truck ever since.

Edit: Since so many others have done the pool noodle mod I decided to just add a note here that even with all of the sound deadening that I have already done it did seem to make a small difference in noise reduction. It may be a placebo effect since I did not make any before and after dB measurements.

I had the same experience ... no impact on my current dBA level ( ~67 dBA @ 70 mph --- using BAFX decibel meter/SPL reader ) when I added the pipe insulation but did notice a slight improvement. My taco is set up with TRD CAI and performance exhaust combo. Although I only applied KillMat 80 mil in all doors and rear seats ( wall and under the seat) compared to your set up. I am curious as to what is the current sound level measurement you mentioned in the above quote as it might encourage me in adding sound deadening on the ceiling and floor if the difference is significant. :D

Unfortunately, I never took any before and after sound level measurements. All I know is my truck was very loud when I first bought it and now it is quiet. When I first started on my journey to quiet down my truck it quickly became an obsession to cover any and all spots that could be covered. The initial places were the doors and rear wall and the difference was significant. After that I did the floor and roof and the difference was smaller. The roof was very important to me since I live in Florida and it has rained almost every day for the last 2 months. Driving in a thunderstorm before was like driving in an echo chamber but now all I hear is the rain hitting the windshield. When I did the roof I put 1 layer of Dynamat and 2 layers of closed cell foam. When I start up now it cools down much faster and stays cool much easier putting a reduced load on the A/C. In the winter it warms up faster and stays warm. I see that you live in SoCal so this might be a benefit to you as well. Sound deadening is not the only benefit to be obtained by these mods. Before I retired 5 years ago the noise in my truck would get on my nerves after a long day at work but after I quieted it down I noticed that I was more relaxed after getting home. Hope this helps.
