Got the TRD OEM Lift kit installed on my new DCLB Off-Road. I’ve read they won’t do it on the long beds but my dealership just did, so :woot:

I’m really happy with it so far, but have a few questions.

In my understanding, the TRD Lift is 2" Front Lift / 1" Rear Lift. Is that on top of whatever the stock OR had, or is that it’s total lift now? Pardon my newbie questions please.

The stock tires look a little small now. What would be the next size up? I’m totally new to truck tires so forgive me. Any suggestions on what to look at? Not sure how big I should go to get a good solid balanced look?

I know I don’t want to worry about any rubbing and definitely don’t want to cut or chop the truck at all. I mostly got the Lift for the extra height, and while I do go on a lot of forest service roads and unmaintained dirt roads, I’m not into proper Off-Roading. I do a lot of long highway drives, though. So while I want a tire that performs in the mud/on gnarly dirt roads, and one that’s great in the rain on the pavement, I also want it to still ride smooth - I don’t want tires so beefy that they ride rougher or kill my mpg more than necessary. Is there anything that fits this bill? And how would it compare to the stock tires I’m running now?

Also, they took out the stock LED fog lights (dealership requirement - due to the lifted height/legal stuff, I assume). Can I just put them back in? Is there a fog light upgrade (over the stock LEDs) that I should buy and install instead? Don’t want/need anything too expensive but if I’m doing the install anyway, now’s a convenient time to upgrade… I’ve seen some guys run amber/yellow fog lights. Any recommendations on a good set?

    Oh look, another mod....

Well, before we can give suggestions or recommendations on tires, tell us HOW much you lifted it. Toyo's are a great all purpose tire for what you do. And yes, you can just put the fog lights back in. Never heard of them being removed. White vs Amber/Yellow fog lights is: The white may project farther, but the yellow/amber's are softer on the eyes-non blinding.

Ah yes, clear oversight on my part Lol

Just went back up and edited to add the lift info: they say the TRD Lift is 2" Front Lift / 1" Rear Lift.

Thanks for the input. Makes sense about the yellow/amber - and I can see using them when I go out at night for stargazing.

Will look into Toyos - trying to find that sweet spot between really good rough/muddy/dirt road performance and more daily driver/highway road trip needs too…

No worries, thanks for the update and pictures. Use this link for help: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

Some tires you can fit, but only with spacers or cutting. Others you can fit just fine. It's all about what you want and what you can afford.

Thanks for that link. And yeah, definitely don’t want to deal with spacers or cutting. Trying to figure out how big to go for a good solid balanced look. Seems like the next step up is 265/75r16. I’ll search around here for pics of those on lifted DCLBs and see how they look.

I'm pretty sure the oem fogs weren't LED on the OR model. If you upgrade to the LED fogs they won't match the headlights? (headlight will be yellowish, fogs will be blue)

Interesting. Spec sheet has said “LED Daytime Running Lights and Fog Lights”. I assumed that meant the fog lights were LED too, but realizing now that might be incorrect? Thanks for bringing this up.

Bummer about the fog lights - I also had the TRD Lift installed and just asked my dealer to leave them in. Their response was classic: "you'll pay us the same amount to do less work.... deal". New OEM fog lights are not LED.

I just went up to a 31.6" tire (265/75r16) and am very happy with the look and performance of the truck now. I don't have to trim, re-gear, moan about decreased power or mpg, and since I'm not a rock-crawler I won't miss 33" or bigger rubber.

Tire talk is a whole other world with lots of opinions. Though Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Toyo Open Country AT3, Goodyear Wrangler Ultra-Terrain, and Nokian Outpost AT all seem like real good options which have good on-road performance and also good off-road traction.

Thank you, this is super helpful. My mistake about the OEM fog lights. No big deal - I’ll just put the stock ones back in and put that money toward new tires.

Your setup is right up my alley - don’t want regearing, rubbing, etc. I don’t understand enough about tires to want to worry about that Lol

I’ll definitely look into 265/75r16 options. What tire did you go with?

I snagged a set of Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrains 265/75r16; I can't offer too much insight as I've only put about 500miles on them so far. See my post above, I've added some tires that seem to be generally well regarded. I've also run Cooper Discoverer 4S and LT and can recommend both of them, though I didn't really love their on-road snow traction.

Great, thanks, good to know. I don’t encounter much snow, but really need good wet traction in the rain.

I’ll do some research on all these options and see what feels like the best balance (of traction on dirt roads and on wet pavement vs for general daily pavement/highway use and comfort).
