Hey Dan, personally I’d stay away from bull bar. They offer almost no protection at all. If you’re in for the look, go for it.

    Welcome to TW.

Bull bars and grille guards are out of fashion at the minute. If you want to be cool, look for a slimline style bumper with integrated bar. (sometimes called a winch bumper) It has a similar look, but somehow cooler.

Depends on what bar you buy. There are lots of cheap bars/bumpers that can't take hits. But then there are some that are specifically-engineered to take them. ARB makes decent kit.

Test video shows a TJM bumper hitting a 100 lb. simulated kangaroo (ballistic gel inside) at ~30mph, no damage done.

That's a very conservative test. I've heard of people hitting 150-175 lb deer going 45-50mph showing only slight denting to the ARB bumper. Without a serious bumper that same hit would likely crush the radiator or worse.

Here's a low-speed street driving impact, obviously the ARB front bumper wins hands down, the offending vehicle takes basically 100% of the damage:

I have an ARB bumper on my 2014 V6 AC 4x4. Haven't hit anything with it (or been hit) so far.

There are definite tradeoffs to running serious bumpers, front or rear. Weight -- minimum +100 lbs or so over stock bumper. For a front bumper it throws off the spring calibration of the front suspension & makes the steering response slow. (Haven't redone my stock suspension yet.) It's driveable still -- but about 35% less nimble than w/ the stock bumper.

Also w/ the ARB deluxe bar, it adds fully 7-8" to the length of the vehicle. However, this is a net positive in a crash as it puts more space between the truck & whatever is being hit. More room energy absorption / bending / denting of the bumper before the truck's front fenders/body/grille.

I think our definition of bull bar is different here. OP did post a link but at the time I did not click on it. I was assuming this right here: https://www.google.com/search?q=bul...FHYlBBskQ_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=375&bih=626&dpr=3.
I finally click on OP’s link and saw something different. But yeah, you can’t go wrong with ARB. I love the arb for the 2nd gen. Somehow the 3rd gen, it’s sticking out so far that I don’t like it anymore lol.
