    Greetings:
Fairly new owner of a 2001 PreRunner here, and unfortunately located in a state with salty winters. Coming into late summer, I'm already looking to employ some measures against rust formation. I discovered this peeling away of material beneath one of my windows, and I wanted to see what fixes are available for this.

Any insight on this matter is appreciated-- any product recs/part information would be awesome.

    Thank you!!

    The discovered peeling in question:

I don't believe that's fixable. The black rubber/vinyl coating looks like it's deteriorated and pealing from the base part.

I would look and see if you can order that part to replace. On 2nd gens those can be swapped out for relatively low cost.

Common issue on 1st gens. Top layer is vulcanized rubber. To repair you gotta peel it all off. If it's just cracking & doesn't want to peel off yet the sun needs to bake it more. Eventually it will get hard & peel off easy. Then paint flat black but it won't feel or look like stock. You can try spraying with plastic dip but plasti dip won't last more than a year or two.

I just replace them. Easy to replace. I'm on my second set now (not including the originals) & my truck is an 01 but then again I'm in hot sunny SoCal.
