Another theory... the salesman is full of shit. The either aren't getting it or got a better offer.

You could call and ask Toyota. They are open today.

I should clarify that I am in Canada and maybe Toyota Canada is a bit different than Toyota USA. But they don’t seem to be doing anything to dealers who just straight up put a MARKET ADJUSTMENTS on a PRO or any Tacoma from the get go. I have had several dealers tell me that they won’t sell any Tacomas with out mandatory accessories totalling a minimum of 6k or more.

I’m not dealing with a salesman. It’s the General Manager that I’ve known for a long time.

I call BS on this one, I really doubt Toyota cares enough to spend the time and resource to keep tabs on these things.

Additionally, I don't think there's a public centralized vehicle trading database in the US, each state's DMV keeps their own record and it's a nightmare trying to merge and blend data across.

How would Toyota know if I bought a Pro in Texas and privately flipped to someone in Luisiana?

I’m glad Toyota is doing this. I had to wait 10 months for my pro and I saw a lot of used ones in the 1000-6000 mile range for sale for 10000 more. So it’s about time they step in and stop that.

Might work. I told him to use my wife’s name. But he told me it gets flagged by address and postal code.

Hey, my wife and I resemble that remark; we often joke we never learned how to drive an auto, and given we're in our mid-60s, we don't plan on learning any time soon. :p

FWIW: ~2006 as the housing market was getting really hot, new homes in my area were going up $10-25k a month! Demand was way higher than supply. Our builder was decent, he did not allow bidding-up like some builders did. He took small deposits and had a raffle each week. If your name came up, you had a week to put down 5% and then construction began... Only stipulation was: If you wanted to sell within a year, the builder had first right of refusal to buy it back at the new price. I thought it was reasonable and appreciated the thought.

I did have another dealer offer me a pro as well but it sold. He did mention to me at the time that it might be hard to get. He knew my situation. He did say that I may have to sign something to say that I wouldn’t sell.

Technically I guess you can say I flipped it with the dealer. I did but not flip for profit. I’m hopping that since it was them that bought out the lease they can get this figured out.

Interesting. Keep us updated. I know they do this with Pro parts in Canada, but doing it with whole trucks, that's new.

i dunno about that. the largest manufacturers on the planet (Apple, Sony, etc) tend to share a very similar policy of the most stringent possible control over distribution and pricing. what they don't care enough to devote time to is the off chance that they might have got it wrong about cutting off a particular dealer or customer.
