Title. Got in my truck today after some heavy rain and noticed water on the drivers side floor mat. Drive straight out of my parking spot and a torrent of water came down from above the rear view mirror where the crawl control buttons are.

Think the dealership will cover inspection and repair or am I SOL?

Also could this possibly be the dreaded 3rd brake light?

    2018 trd OR

    Edit:
Called my local dealer and they said $175 to just diagnose it (lol). HOWEVER, the guy who I got on the phone essentially told me to NOT bring it in and instead to "look up methods available" to see if the drain line is clogged first. Reading between the lines he seemed to be telling me that could be the culprit.

    Maybe. Ask the dealer.

If your out of warranty your out of luck. And no its probably not the 3rd brake light as that is 5 feet away.

They might cover it with a tarp. Best bet is to take it to the dealer and hope it is the Third brake lamp and covered.

Yeah I just wasn't sure if the water could accumulate and flow forward through the headliner since I was parked on a slight decline. Just trying to cover all possibilities

Others can correct me if I'm wrong but at some point I've read threads saying that the sunroof has drains that can sometimes get clogged and cause the problem you are talking about. You might want to search clogged sunroof drains for the fix.

While it could, the angles of the headliner would make the water dump out well before it got to the front. Chances are you either have a plugged sunroof drain, or the sunroof was slightly open when parked.

    Oh look, another mod....
You are correct sir (for once!). OP, check your drain tubes/plug. Chances are, it's clogged and causing the backup to spill out into the cab of the truck. The best way to do this is by taking a can of compressed air and sticking the needle of the can into the drain line area. Then, let'er rip.

I'll add this to my original post. Called my local dealer and they said $175 to just diagnose it (lol). HOWEVER, the guy who I got on the phone essentially told me to not do that and "look up methods available" to see if the drain line is clogged and unclog it. Reading between the lines he seemed to be telling me that could be the culprit.

Just make sure you hold onto the spray tube when spraying. It can be a real bitch trying to get the spray tube out after it blows off the end of the nozzle.:burp:

If you go to clear the drains, be very careful if you use compressed air. It can and will blow the drain hoses off the nipples on the sunroof. Use wire and fish it through the hose.

Doubt it’d be covered unless you had an extended warranty

Or weed-wacker string. Worked great when the tubes on my explorer clogged. I tried the air first, and it just blew the line off and made it a much bigger project than what it started out as.

I have had a sunroof on my last two trucks but had no clue there were drain tubes. Where would you find these drain tubes to check if they are clogged?

Based on previous threads here, it really depends on if you are a female and the service writer is a sexist pig. Warranty status doesn't matter.

Usually in the front two corners and then run down the pillars by the windshield, and then drain somewhere under the vehicle between the door and the front fender.
