At Baja Designs, we take our slogan “The Scientists of Lighting” seriously and are always testing new technology to make our lights the best on the market. Introducing the next generation of LED technology to our lights means more distance, more intensity, and more versatility. This allows us to put the most usable light, where you and the driver need it most without sacrificing near or mid-field illumination. Born from our BDX program and race proven with the 2021 Baja 1000 overall victory, learn more below about how we use the race course as testing grounds for the latest technology in performance lighting.

Racing is at the core of Baja Designs and is our testing platform for new technology. We have used Baja racing, and our time testing in the desert to validate products before going to market. This is a method that we are proud of, but not one that we have made public over the years. Sharing glimpses of these special BDX lights with the public before launch is our way of finally bringing this practice into the public eye.

Race Proven in the Baja 1000

Check out our video where we worked with Luke McMillin to create a custom-tailored lighting package utilizing our next-generation LEDs. Luke has gone on to pilot his truck over 1200 miles from Ensenada to La Paz through some of the most grueling terrains in the world, resulting in a second consecutive Baja 1000 victory in 2021.

the marketing wank is ok, but the specifics are what interests me, and leaves me with more questions than answers

so the optics are the same, the pcb's were updated to the newer cree designs?

were these all xp-g/xm-l, and they were updated to xp-g2/xm-l2/xp-l at the same drive current, and/or the drive current upped as well?

    Hey soundman98,
The leds got a new version to the newest cree technology. Unfortunately I cant give out much more information than what listed on this post due to it being proprietary information.

Am I reading this right that lumens on the Squadron Pro and XL went down from 4900 to 4600, but they still put out more distance and more intensity?

Hey YF_Ryan, I'm not sure where you are reading this but the XL and Squadron Pro have two different lumen outputs. The XLs output is 4900 and the Squadron Pros output is 4600.

So does this mean that there will ever be a "last-years-tech" line for low end users that don't need to illuminate the next county and don't want to pay the premium price?

Your website. But I will admit when I scroll down to the Specs the XL Pro does show the 4900 you mention, it's just the paragraph that seems to have it at 4600. On the Standard Squadron Pro, though, non XL, they are now listed at 4600, when the previous generation was listed as 4900. Was just curious if the new Lumens really were decreased. Obviously your optics make a huge difference, not just raw lumens. But again, just curious.

Interesting, I just noticed this as well. I will have our marketing department get that figured out and have the correct specs advertised. Sorry for the confusion.
    Best,

Hey Rock Lobster, As of now there will not be a "Last-years-tech" option for our lights.
