I'm looking to upgrade to 17 inch wheels when I get new tires since there seems to be more selection in this size.

I know there are countless threads on wheels here on TW. Hopefully my questions are a little more specific.

    1. If I had a budget of ~$500 or less per wheel and I wanted the best/lightest wheel I could get in that range, what brand should I be looking at? I'm no seasoned offroader, but my hobbies take me off road and I air down, so a wheel that has some sort of bead lock type functions would be best.
    2. If I wanted to match the size for my spare... should I just buy 5 wheels of the wheel I like or find a steelie of the same size? What do others do? I'd mount it under the truck.

I'm not a "Fuel" rim guy or any of the Discount Tire Direct brands type person. No offense to anyone, I hate the gloss black chrome look.

I've been looking at Method, KMC, and some of the "Tuner" brands, but I really don't know what others think so opinions are welcome.

They look cool. I've seen the "Armory" ones on a few trucks around me and they look heavy af, so I never researched the brand. Which do you have?

Toyota wheels from another model are a good option too.

Yeah I love those Armory ones as well. I have the 16x8 stadiums in matte black. -10mm offset.

I should add my budget is less than yours but I am after a lighter weight wheel in 17” also.

Currently have FJ steelies on and I love the look (powder coated) but are of course heavy. Especially with my
2.7…. I had a line on some mint 4Runner OR wheels but they are some of the heaviest OEM 17s.

I'm boring and would get those in black, but damn dude. They're on the list.

Still no KMC or Method guys? I liked some of their wheels, but I can't get a feel for whether they're quality or not.

These 702s have the look I'm going for, but I've only seen 1-2 trucks ever have Methods.

Also these from KMC... but they also have some monoblock forged ones for $600 a pop.

00ECC64B-3919-4DC3-86F1-53FF8E869358.jpg I have KMC Summit 718s in 17x8.5 zero offset. Been very happy with them. Quality seems good IIRC they are a little bit heavier than the OEM wheel but they're not terrible. I'm seeing maybe 1-2 MPG less than stock and I'm up a tire size and lifted 2/1. They are also hub centric.

ETA: added pic and realized you mentioned bead lock. Nothing on these or the bead area to help grab tire. Just cosmetic

I like my XD’s. Fuel also has a lot of choices, but never had a set so not sure of quality.

They look dope on your truck. They gotta be heavy though. Not that it matters. MPGs mean nothing to me.

I got the Method MR701s 17inch Matte Black -12 offset. I like them. The matte black keeps em understated which I like. They have their Bead Grip technology which they state allows you to air down to low pressures. If i recall correctly they are roughly 30 pounds.

Enkei RPT1s are 16" but available in 17"

    Gramlights 57DR-X in 17x8.5 +0

both options within your budget or you could opt for old school jdm goodness, I personally like the Work Deerfields

SCS wheels are usually light and a good value. If you can find them in stock. Have them on my Land Cruiser, a heavy pig compared to Tacoma. They do great in all areas. Hundreds of miles off road in the CA desert filled with rocks.
