I have a regular bed toolbox with a few things but what is the point of this? Half your bed is gone and you drive around with 200 pounds of tools and no parts? What are you going to fix with all that?

I agree 100%. Seems like with all those tools, you are just driving around and waiting to break. What is the fun in that?

Small tool roll with some basic stuff. Recovery bag with rope and shackles. Winch on the front. Know where you are going and maintain your vehicle ahead of time. End of discussion.

Good Pliers. Really good pliers. Knipex adjustable jaw. I have a medium and a large version. These things will grip anything if you use them right and the teeth are so hard that the set I've used for 10+ years has almost no damage. I just used them to hold the ball joint side of a sway bar link while turning the nut with a socket and it was rusted so bad that the stud broke before the pliers slipped.

The medium size is pictured below. PN 87 01 250

They basically replace your wrenches for stripped or heavily corroded fasteners.

I have one of those harbor freight socket/ratchet sets, a harbor freight torque wrench for the wheels, a small compressor, pliers, screwdriver, lith ion jumpstarter, giant machete from a mexican swap meet and a cheap 38.

Wait, why just a 10mm socket?

I keep a knife, screw driver, and a AAA card. Not much I can do on the side of the road. If it was my 1991 BMW 325 then I could strip the car to a bare frame with just the factory tool kit in the trunk.

I can take most of the truck apart with one 10mm socket.

I started carrying a couple of these after having to use vise-grips to pinch off the hose to a broken brake caliper. These aren't as bulky and are far less likely to interfere with the suspension while hanging from a hose. Also handy if you need to pinch off a small coolant or vacuum line for any reason as part of a trail fix; probably would work to close off a fuel line to allow for patching if you somehow managed to snag that on a rock as well.

They also hit the trifecta for traveling tools of being small, lightweight, and inexpensive.

Thank you for asking this, I was reading this thread to help me put together a small tool roll and was thinking the exact same thing. Sockets are small, why just a 10mm?
