If you're constantly carrying 300lbs in/on your bed, including the weight of the rack and everything else, would you need a suspension upgrade?

Also at what point is it necessary? How does it affect maintenance down the line?

Is 300lbs nothing for a tacoma?

You’ll be fine with 300 lbs.

It all depends on the owner. Throw 300 lbs in the bed, drive it, and see what you think.

The only objective answer is to read the payload info on your door jam and do the math. Your truck’s GVWR is 5600 lbs. This is the maximum weight of the truck and everything in it that Toyota specifies it can handle. Adding aftermarket parts does not change that number, but it might improve your enjoyment of the truck at the expense of legal risk.

I doubt you will be over GVWR with only 300lbs unless yourself, passengers, and gear weigh 700+ lbs.

I did an AAL after I got my camper shell, which is ~200 lbs. It only sagged the rear about .5” by itself, but 300 more lbs. of work gear back there made it squat.
