Or just wait it out, those precious metal prices can't stay that high forever. I'm sure nobody's going to get their cats stolen once this whole supply chain issue fixes in a couple of years

Maybe. Or, we could hope for effective enforcement. Not holding my breath there.

I think scum will be scum. The thefts have certainly taken off, but it was an issue before the collapse of normalcy. I think it is something that we'll have to live with, esp with the easy access.

    Can't steal what I don't have...

...but really it's a huge problem in my area. If I still had a Tacoma I'd put a shield over it.

My neighbor had his stolen a few months ago. Idk why they picked his truck over mine, they were both parked within 50 ft of each other. I thought they would come back for mine but so far no issues.

I don't know why criminals are so brazen in Texas. Don't we have laws that say:
    • if you believe there's no possibility to recover your stolen property unless lethal force is used
    • at night
the above condition is met, the owner can shoot the crap out of thief even if the thief is fleeing and unarmed

Mine was stolen 2019 DCSB TRD OR last night parked on the street (I have no garage). Talked to a neighbor and it was 2am, he heard a grinder noise looked out his window, guy in car saw him and started moving towards his house. He backed off and they got in the car with the converter (right-side) and took off. Took them all of 30-40 seconds.

I have all RCI skid plates installed on truck, but that didn't help. I thought the converter was under the hood so I never worried about it. If I knew better, I would have bought a Trans. and Xfer case armor with catalytic converter coverage. I see now RCI offers one...they didn't when I got the truck and armor from them.

Truck is now at dealership. Insurance adjuster cannot get out until next Wed. (6 days). I hope Toyota has them in stock.

So, I would suggest, for nothing else than wasting time and calling the insurance company, get one. RCI is charging $150. I'm Ordering today.

Thefts have definitely been on the rise in Connecticut. I also order the set up from Talon. Simple to install and piece of mind. Also offered a military discount.

    Oh look, another mod....
You cannot shoot an unarmed or fleeing suspect. The rule for lethal force or "Castle Doctrine" is if your life or if someone's life is in immediate danger. They have to be attacking you with a weapon.

If they find out you shoot an unarmed or fleeing suspect you will get charged with murder/assault with a deadly weapon/manslaughter, etc...

People need to remember that this is just metal that can be replaced. Sure, it sucks to be robbed. But do you want to risk going to prison because of it? I certainly don't.

Unless they changed the Texas penal code, here is what I found.

    Screen Shot 2022-09-08 at 7.26.50 PM.jpg

So the statistics is pretty clear, a thief running away with cat, there's no way to recover that by asking them nicely.

But, I do agree, the cost of replacing stolen cat at most $4k. Legal fee to defend a rightful weapons discharge, most likely more than that.
So, still let it go (unless there's a good chance of successfully suing the thief for legal fees to make it up).

I though of using rope made of Kevlar threads like the ones found in chainsaw chaps which would stop a grinder cold, anyone know of such a thing?

Right to defend property/yourself varies by State.

I’m in California. Not going to jail over a chunk of insured metal.

    But in Texas….

that wouldn't stop a grinder with an abrasive cutting wheel, carbide is tougher then Kevlar. Also loose Kevlar threads are not as tough as you would think just a pair of scissors or a knife will cut them.

I had my shit stolen from my apartment complex parking garage sometime between 8/31/22 - 9/1/22 in the CA.

Our current laws are designed to make cucks out of us while protecting the criminals. The government won't do anything about this problem and if we take matters into our own hands, we effectively ruin our lives.

We need to implement some elements of sharia law up in this bitch. The penalty for theft should be amputation of the right hand. Enforce it a couple of times and watch the theft rates drop dramatically. Simple and effective. I'd vote for it and if they need people to carry out the sentences, sign me the fuck up.

yeah, i'm pretty salty about it still

But the threads in chainsaw chaps will stop a chainsaw running on full throttle dead before it cuts into your thigh.

I’ve cut off a shit-ton of Cats over the years (legally, for work) and I could be wrong, but looking at that pic of your 1stGen, i’m pretty sure a sawzall with a long-type blade could get in there and cut the pipe and then you could just pull the Cat out from between the cables.
You might wanna weld the cables to the Cat in multiple spots to prevent that from happening.
