Ok, I was thinking clear coat like @Chunk suggested till I put it in bathroom to see what it would look like. Here's the floor and the wall color. Now I'm thinking medium brown

You should go with a hickory stain. Or a gray wash.

 

also if you have scrap piece test the stain on that or on bottom piece where you cant see it. If you dont like the color you arent messing up the whole piece.

Special walnut is good color

I still like the example Will posted last night with the stains. Medium. Not too medium though as to not let the grain show through. 3rd row far right!

Also make sure you stir the stain completely. The stuff/tint settles at the bottom.

I stained my wainscoting with special walnut, not too dark, not too light. I used stain only and no clear coat.
