So, my wife hit the garage door button as I was backing out and the XM antenna was pulled out of whatever anchor it sets in and is now leaving a gap at the roof. There was also some paint scraping and the 3rd brake light is broken.

But the antenna is my biggest concern as my roof is no longer watertight. Has anyone removed their antenna and reinstalled it? I’m assuming the headliner needs to come out but am curious how DIY this is, or if I should take it in.

antenna unbolts from the inside right above the headliner. It also looks like your third break light needs to be replaced as it's also damaged. Parts shouldn't be expensive, it's more of the labor cost.

How hard is the headliner removal? Or better question, how hard is it to get it reinstalled correctly?

It's a PITA to remove the headliner, you can get away with lowering it half way and working around it. You will need to remove the rear sections behind the seats, C pillar panels, B pillars and handles.

Get some JB Weld Plastic Weld. The cover will seal back onto the bracket. Doesn't need much at all. All I did was put a thin line on the cover's edge them pressed it down. Held it in place for about 10 minutes I believe. I broke one on a prior car cleaning snow off of it. Never leaked after the fix going on 4 years now. It won't help with the light though. Well, technically, it probably would but would look like crap.

If you chose to take down the headliner and work on the interior section of the antenna, take the oh shit handles on the driver and passenger side down too. Open the rear slider window and put your shop stool in the bed. It's the easiest way to work on it. You'll be working with your arms through the window above the headliner once the back half is down. The antenna is one nut if I remember correctly. And I also vaguely remember the bottom piece of the antenna is a base so you should be able to snap it back on. It's been a while, I could be off about the base. Depending on the damage you might be able to glue everything back. Also, now would be the time to replace/update the bed light if you wanted too.

‘It’s a job you don’t want to do twice. It’s fussy and awkward. Ever want a rear view dash camera, over head sound deadening? Now’s the time to do it all.

Just be extra careful with the liner. It can be folded and creased if you aren't careful

There’s a good how-to video in one of the leaking third brake light threads.

I think you’ll be able to just lower the back half to get to the antenna

and of course now I can’t find that video when I am actually trying to find it.

i would take it to a body shop. there's likely sheet metal damage from the nut attempting to pull through. and that will fatigue/crack the paint around the area, which will lead to rust...

Sell the wife and use that money to repair the damage. Better ones out there that won’t press the button while you back out of the garage.

Do insurance claim. You will be more satisfied in the long run. I tell my wife all the time that its too much truck for her to handle.

If you haven't done the 3rd brake light recall, you may be in luck!
