Got my copy yesterday of GT7 yesterday and have spent about 5 hours playing so far. Great game and I haven't played a GT game since playing GT2 on original Playstation, which had an awesome soundtrack. The license tests bring nostalgia back.

This is the most I've played my PS5 since buying it a year ago. This game is the main reason I wanted the PS5.

    Anyone else playing?

One downside is you need a Playstation Plus member to play others online. I don't play my PS5 enough to pay for the subscription.

Also been playing Forza 5 on Xbox Series X. Both are great games.

I've played every iteration of Gran Turismo since the original PS. I spent quite a lot of time in GT Sport and at one point I was 14th in the world on the Nurburgring Nordschleife since it was the gold medal track for your final license. Out of the top 100 players I was the only one using a controller. I've never raced with a wheel. I just find it easier to feather the brake and throttle with a controller. Nurburgring is by far my favorite track to run on because it is the most demanding track in the game. You "only" need to know 177 corners lol. Second is Le Mans just because it is mostly a flat out track with long sweeping bends and just a few hairpin turns. Third is Spa because... well... It's Spa. The other tracks are fine but I don't really care for tracks that don't exist in real life even though they may be fun to run on.

GT7 is a beautiful game on PS5. Saying you don't want to pay a sub to play online seems silly to me. For the price of a hamburger each month you can play any game online. Not just GT7. And also consider... the game is a DMR game that must be connected to the internet to even be able to play. Otherwise you are stuck with the stupid music trials and one other bullshit run. Meaning you can't play the game when the servers are down.

As much as I love the GT series, GT7 is by far the most egregious video game out right now due to the microtransactions and them lowering the ways to actually earn credits in the game. It is greed taken to an entirely different level. The amount of outrage at this game is justified IMO. It now has the lowest "user" metacritic score of any triple "A" game out today. PD and Sony have totally ruined the franchise with the sheer amount of greed they have put into the game. As beautiful and authentic as the game is, it is overshadowed by the amount of greed put into this game.

I knew that I was going to buy this game as soon as it was released. That was never a question. But I never expected the amount of microtransactions that were put into the game. The game plays perfectly. But if you want one of the Legend cars? Good luck. You will be spending all your time running the 8 lap Le Mans race over and over and over just to be able to afford one of the Legend cars. And you better hope you get it done before they either sell out of the car you want or shuffle it out of the Legend inventory. I wanted one car and one car only when I bought this game. I wanted the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR LM because that is the car that shut down FIA GT1 because no one wanted to race against it because it was so dominant. Luckily it showed up in the Legends garage last week and cost 6,500,000 credits. I had 5,750,000 credits so I had to run Le Mans over and over just to earn enough to be able to buy that car. Once I bought it? I was left with 47,000 credits. Fucking soft racing tires cost 35,000 credits in game. It's fucking stupid. So you are stuck with running the track that will pay out the most credits in the shortest amount of time to actually be able to even buy a car. "OR".... you can spend upwards of $40 fucking dollars to buy enough credits (due to the goddamn microtransactions) to buy a fucking digital car. Fuck that shit.

Then to make matters worse, it's an always online game. It isn't a "live service" game like Destiny 2 or other online games. You can't even play the single player game if the servers are down. Ask me how I know? I bought the game on March 17th (the day the servers were offline for 31 hours) and couldn't even play the game I just bought. So if you think you "own" this game, think again. Since it is a DRM game they can (and will) do whatever they want with the game and you have zero control over it. If you bought a physical copy of the game? When the servers are offline the game becomes nothing but a coaster to set your drink on since you can't play it.

There is a coding bug in the game right now that you essentially "have" to run with ABS on because the slightest touch of the brakes will lock up the tires. Not to mention the camber adjustment is completely backwards from real life. I race with no driver aids. Meaning I have all assists turned off with the exception of ABS (because of the bug) and traction control set to 1. I can't use the driver line, track markers, and most importantly the braking zone indicator because it just fucks me up. If you drive with assists turned on you will actually turn a slower lap time. So you'll have to find what works best for you.

Now... With all the negative shit out of the way. The game is beautiful. Almost lifelike. The car models are beautiful. I got my CLK GTR LM and also spent a fuck ton of time running Le Mans just to get the McLaren F1 GTR before it was shuffled out of the Legends garage. So I've got 2/3's of the "holy trinity". Only car I'm lacking (wanting) is the Porsche 911 GT1 which will finish out the holy trinity.

Below are videos of the two cars exactly as I received them after buying them in game. I've changed nothing.

Very first laps (after a few warm up laps) around Le Mans after I got the CLK GTR LM.

Once I ran Le Mans so many goddamn times to earn 9,500,000 credits I was able to get the McLaren F1 GTR. This is about as perfect of a lap that you can put up in an unmodified car. I can see why the CLK GTR LM killed off the FIA GT1 class. There is nothing that could compete with it. The video of the CLK GTR wasn't a perfect lap and it still beat the McLaren on a damn near perfect lap.

    And just because... Nurburgring.

First lap with the CLK GTR LM

I've since lowered all of these lap times. These were just the first time running them in the new cars.

I've since lowered the lap times on Le Mans even more than this picture. But that was a perfect lap with the McLaren and it still couldn't beat the CLK GTR on a sub par lap.

    Nurburgring Nordschleife? No fucking contest.

So... About all I race is Gr.2 cars. I'm constantly trading places between the Nismo GT500 and the NSX GT. It took me two weeks to get the gearing just right since there is no graph that you can use to keep your powercurve in the optimal RPM range so it turns into a bunch of trial and error. I've got the camber and suspension set perfectly so both cars corner like they are on rails. The Nismo GT500 is faster in the straights but slightly slower in the corners. The NSX GT is slightly slower in the straights but faster in the corners. So basically... the NSX makes up it's time in the corners and the Nismo makes up it's time in the straights.

Fastest time I've been able to post with the NSX so far and it holds (right now) the fastest lap on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. I'm sure the Nismo can beat the NSX with a little more tuning or if the wind speed is a tail wind on the final straight.

Anyway... here is the best run so far on the Nordschleife with sub optimal wind speed.

Oh... and it took me 3+ hours to paint each of these cars with the livery.

And just a really good online race with my Nismo GT500. 2 lap race around the Nordschleife against 3 streamers. Extremely close race. No mistakes. Guy behind me was never more than 2 secs. behind me the entire 2 laps.

So after a lot of tuning (and I do mean a lot of tuning), I will race anyone on the Nurburgring with this monster. My fastest lap on the Nurburgring is 5:28 and change with this car but I don't count that as it was in a race and I could draft.

This is the fastest lap on a closed course. I think I can shave a second to a second and a half off this time. Mind you, I'm playing with a controller and not a steering wheel. No assists at all with the exception of ABS (because the brakes in the game are still bugged) and traction control set on 1.

And yes... this livery took about 3 hours for me to prefect. It belongs on a Porsche but I've always loved this livery.
