    True story,

Years ago while waiting at the VW dealer for service I walked into the showroom on the BMW side and sat in a brand new Z4 roadster. Not 5 seconds in I was approached by a sales person. I looked at him right in the eyes with a straight face and ripped the loudest fart right into the drivers leather seat. The funky echo rippled across the showroom. I got many stares and a few smirks as I sat there laughing and the salesman walked away.

That new car smell...not so much. :poking:

Can't really complain when i bought/ordered my toyota out of state. Did the entire transaction over the phone. Pretty painless. They took my credit card as a down deposit, but never ran it, only if i never took the truck. At any rate i gave them a check when i arrived at their dealership to pick the truck up. The only hitch was this finance guy of theirs wanting me to take an extended warranty, which i refused. It actually pissed him off, but i still refused. Drove the truck 160 miles home and its been good ever since.

It is past time to get rid of the state laws that give dealerships a protected status. The way sales tax is calculated lower if you trade your car in verses if you sell it yourself must be straightened out. After my last several go arounds I want to order online direct from the car company and have the vehicle delivered like an Amazon package.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a new car gets a salvage title!

H/t to you sir, for giving expert negotiation tips.

In my experience true "market adjustment" in the vehicle market is under MSRP, and the market has been this way longer than any of us have been alive. Except in vanishingly rare cases, sticker price is always adjustable down for a motivated buyer.

There's always another car to pick and another dealer to visit. Remind them often of this truth! But bargains take time – I just got my new truck last week but the negotiation took 3 days and literally swung $7,150 in my favor.

OP if you don't take it personal, that truck is probably still gathering dust on that dealer's lot. Email them and ask if they would rather wait for a mythical buyer or deal with a real one and get this leftover '22 off the lot. If you're patient they might surprise you yet.

    This is good advice.

    Additional leverage.

Sales people get demo vehicles. We had to sell 9 vehicles a month or pay for the demo.

They get a crappy pay check and then it is worse because the demo cost comes out too.

    Try again.

    With no trade,
I have seen people buy a loaded avalon out the door with Tax, Title, Lic, and Doc fee for 1000 less than MSRP.
Msrp is already padded with profit, transport fee, prep, in addition toyota pays dealer holdback, and spiffs to sales people.

Heck man, join Sams Club and use thier car buying service.

    Have you used cars.com app?

It shows most of the ones in your area, then pick your options bu filtering. Do it by email, get a sales order, then drive over.

Found what I wanted at Bryan Easler in Asheville after they were recommended by another poster. Completely painless experience over the phone and priced out the door with zero markup or fluff.

My original post was made in hopes to steer/caution others away from same experience or mistakes. Likewise I hope the above recommendation helps someone else out whom is actively searching.

Thats all well, and good, but dealers in states around here have lobbied for laws to be entitled to charge those fees when you buy a new vehicle. Whatever you can negotiate under msrp, these dealers have their fees to make it back. It sucks but thats the way it is.

Easy to walk the lot before going inside and look at a few window stickers, if the window stickers have a markup then keep on walking.

Yeah I got pulled some shadiness at my dealership too. Salesman gave me a trade in quote on my jeep of $55k, 1 month later (this was at the peak of used car prices FYI), my Tacoma comes in, and when it comes time to owning up to this quote, it now turned into $49k... it had $15k of upgrades on it too! They said it was b/c it was too highly modified, and they are having trouble selling modified jeeps. Well I guess I won't drop $8k on suspensions anymore haha.

What they did is really shady though I would report them to corporate.

Best advice here. I love haggling with dealerships just because I don’t give two shits about those guys.

When I walk in to a dealership, I’m quick to remind them I’m the one with the money & they need to work to earn my business. Plain and simple. I don’t take anything personally, it’s just business. If they play games, I just remind them I’ll come back at the end of the month when they’re willing to work to earn my sale, or go somewhere else where they want to make a sale.

The salesman works for you and you have all the money, don’t let them trick you into thinking they’re doing you any favors lol.

Two things I’ll add to this - never use dealership financing / get preapproved by your credit union and always freeze your credit folks.

This was me 3 weeks ago. I naturally hate paying MSRP and IDK if $1300 in processing shit is fair but whatever.

Agree. The only product sold in America where the purchaser is subjected to: deceit, bait and switch , extortion, fraud, malipulation and deception.......all legal, and we're suppose to go along and be OK with all this BS. This dosen't happen with any other product. Sure, there's the few feel good happy ending stories, but there are far more ripoffs then people want to talk about.

Was looking at a 1794 Tundra this past weekend - beautiful truck. Dealer proudly thumps his chest and says "we only sell at MSRP, no markup!" I'm not really in the market yet for a Tundra (next year most likely, adios Taco at that point) but I was intrigued. So I said "OK, if I offer you MSRP now, will you take it?"

ANSWER: "Well, the truck is going in tomorrow for a lift, wheels, and tires. That's mandatory, and costs $15,999. You'll need to pay that."

ME: "I'm not paying for some crap spacer lift and cheap wheels/tires, especially for $16k. I will offer MSRP though - what do you think?"

    ANSWER: "No."

Hahahahahah so much for no markup right? There was also notes about KARR alarm, a "protection package" and other such garbage dealer packs to collectively add around $5k or so. My favorite was the $499 nitrogen fill package.

Turns out with all of the bull shit add ons and fees the truck price would be around $85k or so, and that's BEFORE sales tax, license, etc...

SMH... Good thing I was window shopping and not really serious - hopefully this nonsense will have died down next year when I am more in the market for a Tundy.
