I went to my audio guy to diagnose nonworking sub woofer. He said existing wiring was junk and needed to be replaced and he recommended some Kicker OFC 4AWH wires, added Rockford Rockford R2-750X5 Amp (for my 2ohm Pioneer TSA2000LB Sub woofer that's already there)
So amp, wires, and "5 hours" labor came up to $1200. OUCH!!
So - is that a fair price? Or take existing set up to someone who will identify/repair broken wire for basically nothing. Thanks for your ideas.

$500 in labor and $700 in parts, a little steep but not unreasonable IMHO.

Fair price? Depends. Was he able to explain why the “wiring being junk” requires a new amp? The Kicker kit, sure. If the existing wiring is indeed “junk”, it should be replaced. 4-5hrs to properly run new wiring, if it’s power and speaker runs, absolutely. If the bad wiring shorted the amp into “protection” mode, then yes, a new amp is necessary.

Thanks for your input. So far I've spent a penny on this system and another 1200. yikes.
The mono amp is supposedly good, switching amps will power Memphis speakers as well as woofer. According to installer I think he said the main wire was broken somewhere.

Not sure, according to him amp worked, said he bypassed something or other to get power. I checked fuses and wiggled wires without luck. The RCA cables had green gunk in them that I cleaned some. IMG_8621.jpg ut success.

I'd start with just replacing the amp. That amp looks old. Can probably DIY.

If the main power wire is in fact broken, replace it. Try doing this yourself and learning about the system. It's much more rewarding than paying someone. I've been installing sound systems since I was in high school. It's not difficult.

Can tape the new wire to the old wire and pull through the firewall. Then route the new wire where the old one was. You might spend $100 on wiring and tools.

Thank you for all the input. Don't see any amp lights, capacitor is lit up though. As for doing it myself you're absolutely right. Took me forty plus years to figure out how easy brake work is. Electronics is taking a tad longer.

Well, if there’s no lights on the amp, odds are it’s been shorted. Before you toss it though, check the fuses. One or both may have popped if the amp was shorted.

Out with the old in with the new. Pretty happy with the results. Now the Memphis 6X9 door speakers are amplified and the Little 8" Pioneer sub is back working. Sounds awesome to me. IMG_8624.jpg
