    For driving on a beach the 4 cylinder isn't a handicapped. It depends on the beach and other options on the truck. Some beaches are fine with any vehicle. Others are 4X4 only. Tires matter.

    Traction will be a problem long before power when it comes to driving on sand/mud.

    Airing down to 17-20psi makes a world of difference in sand. And it’s even better if your tires have less aggressive tread. All purpose/all season or AT tires fare far better than mud traction tires in sand. It’s all about the increased footprint of the tire.

    I’ve found a great test when on the beach; Air down and drive for a short distance. Let off the gas and if truck continues to roll a few feet before stopping, you’re good to go. If truck stops immediately once you let off gas, air down a couple more psi and try again.
