Mud Flaps - 2022 SR Recommendations

Not sure where to post this question - after looking at the forum options and not seeing any that were more appropriate I went with the 3rd gen.

My new 2022 SR (so no factory fender flares) 4 wheel drive. I will be mounting some step bars - something like predators. I would like to mount mud flaps - but without fenders the choices are basically WeatherTechs since they do have an option for the SR (no fender flares).

I am not sure I like them since they look like a hard plastic type of material. I was thinking maybe something out of a flexible rubber material. Maybe with a SS or polished aluminum accent.

I would like to get some recommendations for mud flaps (rear set for certain) I am not certain about the front till I get the step bars mounted. Are there any good universal ones for under $100 a pair?

I don't really like the idea of drilling - but not sure what other options there are. Appreciate any advice or recommendations.

If you off road mud flaps are a must to save your paint. I never off road and don’t have mud flaps. My paint looks great and I personally like the look.

I think that for the SR you have to drill at least one hole per side no matter who you go with, since the flaps share a few mounting points with the fender flares that yours doesn't have.

I haven't seen a rubber material pre-cut for the Tacoma. Some people here have grabbed trucker flaps and cut their own out of that. Personally I found the plastic cards to be a fairly decent compromise. It's light, holds it's shape in the wind and rain, but it's still flexible enough for light off-roading. Plus it was basically plug and play.

The tuffskinz were my choice. Similar material as the weather techs, but with the option to add graphics, and at a much more reasonable price. So the world knows how much of a dork I am.

I second the WEATHER TECH. Took about 15 minutes to install all 4 mud flaps.

I like Rok Blocks. They are the best in my opinion. I run the XL.

I 2nd the Rokblokz! Very happy with mine. I added a TRD decal to the rear ones to give it that old school vibe.

Surprised some state don't require them. Here they come on every new truck sold....its a law. So far no issues with the toyota oem ones.

I went to the Rok Block website and it specifically states:

    DOESN'T FIT:
-SR or SR5 or any other model without factory fender flares/trim.

Thanks for the suggestions but doesn't look like an option for my SR without flares.

I bought Weathertechs because thats all I could find easily for no flares. They work well, would have preferred a more flexible one like the Gen 1 I had, but these work well.

Is it difficult to just install factory OEM fender flares?

I have the Weathertechs and like them - they feel like an OEM product.

They look low to the ground and aren't super flexible, but they are so close to the tires that I didn't scrape them on the easy trails out in Colorado (like Ophir Pass, Medano Pass in Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park, etc).

This is a lithium battery (Ecoflow) that I use to power my tire inflater (110-volt Craftsman I've had forever).

I see where you are seeing that. But I have had them on my SR now with no fender flares for 6 years now.

REK GENS!!! Don’t waste your money on the weather techs like I did. I threw them in the trash. They will dig into your paint and damage and hold dirt. The REK GENS mount on the plastic liners using existing bolts/holes. No drilling. Love mine!

Tenricco ... Thank you. I see that the Tacoma Gen 3s are specifically labeled as no drill for the SRs without flares. Thank you.

BTW: I like that wheel and tire combo. Very nice.

thanks man! On the front flaps (since I upgraded the tire size to 265/70/17), I had to cut like a third of the longest extender piece that the screw goes in to clear for no rubbing. You’ll see what I mean if you end up buying these. And you can adjust them outward or inward as well. Love these flaps. Seriously, save your $80-$90 and avoid the weather techs. They are good quality as far as product itself, but will ruin your paint and Do not work for bigger tires if you get a bigger wheel and tire package later down road (fronts will rub).

another vote for tufskinz. personally, not too much difference in all the mudguards available. I like the designs you can get with tufskinz. I got the one pictured above with the old school TRD stripes. Easy to install. Who knows if they bend backwards when I'm driving, I can't see them when moving. Looks sic at stand still.
