Hey all! Been having a hell of a time finding a direct answer to this question, so I figured I’d ask you all.

Recently replaced my stock OEM wheels with some new Pro Comp 51’s on my 98 taco.. had to add spacers obviously to clear the calipers — no biggie. My question is, what after market lugs are you using on these Pro Comps?? I purchased the basic m12x1.5 PRO COMP lug kit, but dude at tire shop is telling me they’re long shank, thus won’t fit on my wheels (which I think is weird considering their pro comp wheels lol). He said I need Bevel lugs ..? With my research I’m finding that supposedly, any basic conical seat (acorn?) lug will seat my pro comps fine, but I honestly haven’t found a lot of info confirming this. Any suggestions? Input? Obviously don’t want to use anything that’ll jeopardize my sweet new setup. Thanks in advance!

Your Oem Toyota wheels have lug nuts like the third mag type in this image.
Your new Pro comp wheels most likely have the first conical type lug hole in them, as my pro comps do.
Possibly you bought the extended thread conical type, like the fourth type below.
If the extended portion is too long, its possibly that they will not hold your wheel onto the hub surface on the truck even when tightened. If you have aluminum alloy wheels + spacers, I find it hard to believe that this is your problem.
Steel wheels however are often much thinner when comparing the thickness of metal that mounts to the vehicle hub than alloys, due to steel being stronger than aluminum.

It would help to post a photo of the lug nuts and wheels you got.

If the lug nuts you have are indeed too long/deep (longer than your wheel + spacer is going thick) you could either:
    - Get a thicker spacer
    - Get new alloy wheels (if your current pro comps are steel)
    - Get new lug nuts that are the correct style and depth for your existing wheels.

All of these options should solve your problem,

Hell yeah! Thanks for the response!! That was very helpful. Here are the photos of the wheels mounted and the pro comp lugs 4WP sold me. The OEM lugs are mounted currently because I had to limp it home from the tire shop after the dude informed me the pro comps won’t work…Definitely not trying to drive it around with the OEM lugs. Luckily I’ve got two vehicles. Curious what your input is after seeing these!

    Seriously — thank you again!

If the lugs you got have the extension after the taper (like the pic), they will not work with steel wheels as the extension is too long.

This is the same design but without the extended shank.

Looks like you problem is exactly that !
Get some new lug nuts that don’t have the extended shank.
