since yall helped me out so much last time i figured id try again. ran my truck through a rough trail. thing died and now it starts for just a second and then dies. can turn the key off and on fast and get it to stay running “kind of” but other than that nothing.

edit: got the truck home. fired right up and drove for 3-5 minutes before dieing and going back to the same symptoms as before

When you say rough trail how do you mean?

    Wet?

Try starting it without the air filter in.

rough as in bassically 10 miles of the bumpiest fourwheeler trail you can think of.

i will try taking the air filter off tomorrow. i didn’t presume lack of air would lead to lack of fuel?

If it was Dusty as all hell and especially if you have your inner fender liners removed for larger Tire clearance or something, you could definitely have a plug air filter that would be choking the engine off, the fact that you say that you can kind of keep it running by bumping the starter leads me to believe that it's not a fuel issue it's an air issue, what would make you believe you don't have fuel?

If you didn't have fuel it would turn over but it wouldn't run it all.

I definitely wouldn't try and drive without the air filter in, especially if you're stuck off road, but you can try knocking it out by beating against a smooth clean rock or your tire or something if it will run with the air filter out, I would just try starting it and see if it would idle just for a little bit as part of diagnostics.

I would only try and drive without the air filter if you were absolutely stranded and had no other option assuming that is the issue but I really don't have much to go off of especially not through text over the internet here.

Sounds like the symptom of a bad fuel pump resister.
It’s bypassed on starting, then comes back “on” after starting.

Came here to say this. Bypass the resister, or just pull the fuel pump relay and jump it so the pump runs full 12v.

Good info, I thought given the recirculating nature of the lines that the pump started and ran at 100% full time when the ignition was switched to on.

Where is the resistor and how do you bypass it in an emergency situation like this?

Nope, the pump only runs when starting or motor running, doesnt even have a prime sequence when the key is turned to run.

The resistor is a grey metal small box right in front of the battery on the inner fender.

You can bypass at the resistor itself, or simply pull the Fuel pump relay, and with a short jumper with 2 male spade connectors, connect pins 3 and 4 in the socket and it will put the pump at 12v constantly. (I have been meaning to pull the pump relay and make a proper lil jumper to throw in the tool bag in the truck for a "just in case")

Jump pins 3 & 4 of the Fuel Pump Relay.

Or feed battery power to the Black/Red wire of the resistor plug.
Typically you want to use a fused power source when doing this.
(I’d be lying if I said I did this every time)

disconnected the resistor and ran 12v straight from the battery to the hot wire on the plug as well as jumped the relay with no change in symptoms. could it possibly be my fuel pump going bad ? or a clogged fuel filter?

Have you checked what code(s) it's setting?
Do you hear the fuel pump running when you put power to the Black/Red wire at the resistor?

P0113 is for an Open in the IAT circuit.
I’m not exactly sure what the truck does if the IAT sensor open.
Maybe @Dm93 knows? But it may shut the truck off?

On your scanner, if you turn the ignition ON, truck off.
What does the IAT Sensor read? (Intake Air Temperature)

BTW, the IAT Sensor is part of the MAF Sensor.
