Anyone else running an oil catch can? This is the first time harvesting what was captured in mine and wondering if this is fairly typical.

It looks like less than an ounce of oil has been captured in about 3,500 miles.

I ran one when I had my S/C but I took both of them off when I sold it. I didn't get as much as I thought it would.

Having never run one before, I was a little surprised at how much there was given the number of miles. I guess I wasn't sure if I should be concerned at the amount it caught.

Yea I run one on my 3rz and it definitely picks up some oil. I change it about every other oil change or so and it has a good amount in it usually.

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, the catch can went on because I installed the supercharger. I had forgotten about the the o-ring situation on yours. A vacuum leak will wreak havoc with the fuel and timing mapping in the Haltech so I need to check that. We did add an o-ring to the dipstick tho.

I witnessed Dan @drr check his too. There was definitely oil captured but I wasn't sure how much exactly and how long it took to accumulate.

A vacuum leak would bother a stock truck or one with something like a 7th, but your truck it wont bother at all short of a higher idle. One of the perks of the haltech.

I have one but got tired of it freezing during winter so it remains vented to atmosphere. Mine collects as much water as it does oil apparently.

Ah, did not realize that. I guess I assumed that it would.

Winter is coming, tho mine are typically kind of mild by some measure. I guess we'll see what actually happens.

The Tailgate cable busted, bought a new one, old bolt wouldn't come out, I broke one Philips bit using my impact.
next tried to use a left hand drill bit hoping to "lefty loosey" this bolt loose, no go.

    tailgate1.jpg

then tried to drill it out, that was a no go as well
used my angle grinder to get the head off, vice grips on the bolt shaft were a no go as well.

next, removed tail light to get to back of bolt,
    tailgate2.jpg

used said vice grips to grab tacked on nut, wiggled a bit and it broke off.
so, finally able to install the new cable with new bolt, washer, lock washer & nut... unfortunitly the new cable is a bit too long but o'well job done best I could.

1-1/2 weeks owning this truck, and still learning it and going thru it with "fine tooth comb"

Been looking at this and never liked it.

    rad.rev.1.jpg
    gets worse
    rad.rev.2.jpg

took off to clean, what the crap is this?????
    rad.rev.3.jpg

did my best cleaning it out and scrubbing what I could get to.

    rad.rev.4.jpg

next plan, new radiator reservoir and a radiator flush.

PO did tell me he overheated the motor cuz the rad blew. new motor 80k back.
perhaps this is the remnants of a blew rad and over heated motor?
you would think, if new rad and motor the tech would clean this out or replaced.

In the summer it doesn’t collect nearly as much because there is much less condensation building up under the valve covers and elsewhere. In the winter I have to empty it regularly and it has a nasty fuel/oil/water mixture, looks like a mocha and smells even worse.

I’ve added a second catch can to interrupt the vent line from the driver’s side valve cover to the intake, it doesn’t get nearly as much because the crankcase vapor is pushed out of the PCV.

For the first time since February my truck has a motor. Full rebuild with all the new new OEM parts with a few aftermarket upgrades.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. So far no evidence of moisture in the cocktail.

Is this the same size though? I was thinking that the 01-04 Tacomas had a slightly larger space here than the 95-00 Tacomas.

Ended up getting it finished took about 3 hours start to finish. Working while the exhaust is hot was key I think, everything broke free much easier. Get new studs/nuts where you can. I put on a cheapo Rockauto $80 manifold so we'll see how long it lasts. Reused manifold studs but everything else was replaced. Had to disconnect the EGR on the other side and was never able to fully seal it back up since the nuts/studs are about to snap so that's a project for a different time.

You have plenty of room to work in once the intake is out of the way but man it sucks. If I were to do it again, I'd recommend going straight to the header instead of a new manifold.
