i have an 03 Tacoma with one of the steel lines rusted out on the steering box. I decided to replace both lines since they both looked rough. The tube seems to be 1/4" coming out of the fitting, then expands to 5/16" maybe. I was guessing the fittings are metric . I think I found replacement lines for around $60 each. Any suggestions as to what thread and size the fittings are. I'd guess it's a 1.0 pitch. Also any ideas for adapting regular steel or nickel copper tube. I also don't know what type of flare. It looks like a double flare. I have a flaring tool. Or should I just spring for the replacement lines

I have one line built now. I bought two short 1/4" lines and cut the flares off. I also bought a 51" long piece of 5/16. I bent it to shape and made it just a little short on each end. I put the old fittings on the 1/4" flares, slid those into the 5/16, cleaned everything up and brazed the pieces together. If the flares match ok, I should be good. Now I have to make the other one.

I’m not sure if you wouldn’t be better off just putting new lines on. P/S pumps can generate some pretty high pressures and the pulsing of the pump vanes may fatigue the brazed joints.

If it’s on the return line side, then rock on. There really isn’t any pressure to stress the brazed repair.
