hi folks, I'm a long time Toyota Tacoma owner and for the first time ever it will not start. Currently, for an extended period, I'm living across the country from my home in NC (where I parked it). I ask a friend to go by and start it up and let it run a while but it wouldn't start. It did turn over fine but just wouldn't fire up. It has been sitting for a couple of months and does have gas in it. I would appreciate any suggestions. By the way I bought it new in 2000 and it is closing in on 300,00 miles. It has been and still is a great vehicle. Also it is a standard 2 WD.
    thanks for your help

Had similar issue with my 99 Prerunner after sitting for 8 weeks, it took a lot of cranking, like almost draining battery cranking, then it started and worked fine for the next 4 weeks. Then i parked it for six weeks, tried starting, same thing kept cranking almost killed battery then it caught and ran just fine and continued to run fine after. So went to search bar here, think i typed in fuel check valve, and sure enough someone smart posted a schematic of a Denso fuel pump and yup there is a check valve in fuel pump to keep system primed. Changed fuel pump, issue resolved, not saying this is your issue, just food for thought, by the way this happened couple of years ago at 234,000 miles, my only other thought would be rodents/wire damage which i hope is not the case.

I was also curious if it would be worth adding a fuel treatment in case of condensation?

I should report that my problem was resolved. A mechanic friend of mine suggested just holding down the accelerator and cranking away. He said the plugs may have built up some residue. It worked!
