So obviously as our Yota’s get older and older we lose some power have any of you all found or have any tips or tricks to prevent just ‘normal’ engine power loss? I do run a can of seafoam twice a year of course thats a debate I find it a helpful thing. What do you guys do? Keep in mind I am not talking about a busted engine or burning oil etc. Just the simple combustion loss with age as the pistons lose their ummmph. Also I never or should say rarely take mine over 3500 rpm actually 3000 is what I prefer do you all think this is helpful or hurtful. Just interested in different opinions so please no bashing anyone in this thread for what is said! Mine is a daily driver so no off-roading for me

The only time I've seen or experienced such a thing (power loss) was based on wear, typically on rings or valve assembly.

And there is no magic to fix that. Only mechanical work.

That said, in the 50's and 60's, a well treated engine would use a valve job at 100k and a full rebuild at 200k.

Modern engines are built with tighter tolerances, and treated to modern oils, have less fuel wash due to EFI and generally better cooling systems. 200k is attainable with no repairs, just maintenance.

Agreed. Don’t think modern engines have issues loosing power. The only thing that will cause it to feel “worse” is it something it not in working conditions.

I’m thinking to clean your intake manifold and throttle body, and maybe check your injectors, but I bet they are fine for most people. Besides that, just do your normal Maintenance and you shouldn’t loose power.

How would you even qualify a power loss like that outside of Dynoing it new vs what it is now? If you gradually lost power over time it would be so gradual you wouldn't even notice it. But to stay on topic, lower the diff gears to compensate.

Contrary to belief most engines maintained correctly will Dyno the same power when new even with tons of miles and years. If your power loss is noticeable it's an issue that normal maintenance will fix. Or the engine needs rebuilt.

Chang/Clean your air filter and spark plugs, clean your throttle body and mass airflow sensor. Run seafoam in your gas. If there's any power loss (highly unlikely) those things should address it.

My butt-dyno tells me a bottle of Techron at each fill improved my performance. It like @slander said, it’s been a gradual change until after maybe 10 or 12 fill-ups I noticed a lot of the shaking at stoplights is gone.

Idk. Like just think about it. What can they put in there that will clean up your injectors? I understand when they take out the injectors and clean them physically and do the sonic bath. But just using some 12 oz of some solution? Idk.

Yep, definite power loss if you're already questioning it

    Time for an LS swap

Might as well go 40's n tons cause you know, "while you're in there"

Lol…….I am doing my valve cover gasket discovered it had a small leak near the back very very small but not gonna let it get any bigger. I was kinda talking more about seafoam type things people use to avoid buildups etc. My engine is fine but if all of us could remember right off the lot vs now there is change of course it just happens with time. I am about to hit 200k so have been going down the list of things that may need attention an doing them LBJs tie rod ends center support bearing radiator need a new muffler prolly by spring valve cover gasket. Plugs wires filters tires brakes so on an so forth have always been maintained so all is good.

One thing often overlooked is egr valve, it can get pretty carboned up after a while...
if that gets sticky truck would run rough......lack of power.....
not all models have that egr though.....

My new engine has never touched a drop of toyota oil.....
used the high zinc breakin oil.....
    followed by valoline vr-1 conventional.....
and now were sporting syn blend.......till 20K mark....
    Halfway there....

Engine has never seen the pink slime stuff either....
dont have a denso to have it leak at its top seam to fail there too...ugh.....
