Meh. Too far. I'll stay in Hurst where they play reruns of Divorce Court and the occasional salesman walks by to see if he can Jedi mind-trick someone into trading down to whatever shitty SR they have on the lot.

Didn't really read the entire thread, but I assume it just followed suit behind the first page. Call it a hard lesson learned, and move on to somewhere else. Once you understand how dealerships work, you'll be more informed to make better decisions elsewhere. Understand the market as well - you're not entitled to $5k below MSRP, when the current market is moving units at $10k over MSRP all day long. You're "negotiating" with salesmen who depend on commission to feed their families. They're not going to give you a deal just bc they like you, when there's 3 people lined up behind you begging the salesmen to let them overpay for that same vehicle. Its just the current market. Take your knowledge, and figure out how to leverage the best deal elsewhere. It may be a way longer process than you'd like if you're dead set on a specific vehicle at a specific price.

For bad dealership stories, here's mine in a nutshell:
Context: younger days, never owned a vehicle over $4500, looking for 1st new vehicle/1st dealership experience
I finally picked a specific vehicle I wanted, right at the top limit of the price range I thought I could afford, in a specific color, with specific options, and I was dead set on it. I stopped by a local dealer after work one day and test drove the same year model vehicle, to make sure I liked it. After driving the used one, I decided I was ready to pull the trigger on a brand new one (not on the lot). We ran all the numbers, settled on a price I was okay with, and started the process for ordering the brand new vehicle. We agreed we'd go ahead and order the vehicle/transfer it from another dealer lot to my local dealer, I'd put a $500 deposit down on it to secure, so it wouldn't sell upon arrival, and that we'd finalize the sell on the date that it arrives. We also agreed that I'd sell my current vehicle privately to add more money on the down payment, or trade it into them upon new vehicle arrival at an agreed amount if I had not privately sold yet. A week or two goes by, and the salesmen calls me on a Weds/Thurs and informs me the vehicle will be on Saturday; I'm excited and explain I was happy to hear back, as I had sold my current vehicle, and had a much larger than expected down payment, and we locked in an appointment time for me to come and finish the entire deal that Saturday. Long story short, I show up at the scheduled time Saturday, there's no vehicle, it was never ordered, I'm without a vehicle now, so I'm forced to check out another new vehicle they had on the lot (exact same vehicle minus color). The price for it was astronomically different/higher, and come to find out, the prices we had discussed (for the vehicle that we had supposedly ordered/I put deposit on) were "for an entirely different vehicle, the base model option", even though I had all the agreed paperwork with the VIN for the correct vehicle. They ultimately said "we just can't do that price for that vehicle (that did exist, but was never transferred to their lot)", and I walked.. Found the vehicle I originally wanted at another dealer at the opposite end of the state, made the 6 hour drive after explaining what I'd just been through over the phone, they held it, and we made a deal for fairly close to what I had originally planned. Moral of the story, people suck. Really good dealers have really bad apples sometimes, and really bad dealers occasionally have some really good people sometimes.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
Many years ago I was in a Jeep dealership looking at doing a trade for a newer model Jeep and while I was still negotiating a young fellow came into the waiting room all excited because he had just bought a Jeep, come to find out it was MY Jeep, yes, the one I still owned since I was still bickering over the sale price of the new one, they didn't even have my title yet! Well needless to say I got a really good deal, since after learning of their shenanigans I told them I changed my mind and to give me the keys of my Jeep back (they had the keys so they could run it into the shop to inspect to get a trade value). I could barely maintain a straight face, but I did get what up till then they were not willing to agree on suddenly they were more than accommodating LOL! I was shocked by their arrogance! In this case only by chance I became aware of their bad behavior and was able to take advantage of it!

Yep, before I go down to the dealership, I ask for an out the door price. Markup, mandatory “options” (lol), etc… so I know if it’s worth my time.

Dude... there are people around that are unintelligent enough to pay a 2K mark-up, and even people that are unintelligent enough to pay full MSRP... as well as people that are unintelligent enough to order one truck and before they take delivery they try to weasel another deal because they've rethought the color. Unintelligent people that allow the stealerships all the power instead of walking out are WHY stealerships continue to do what they do. If the public was smarter everyone would get their vehicles for less money and stealerships wouldn't be playing so many games (extended warranties, etc) to drain our wallets.

Put on your big boy pants and realize that walking out was a good thing. Sniveling because you didn't pay an extra 2K isn't a good look.

The market will charge what the market will bear, especially regionally. No one is forcing us to buy the product nor shop a specific dealership (some of us may be severely limited depending where we live). Walking out on a dealership is a good thing if the deal is not for you. Do your research, as an informed consumer is the worst type of customer for a sales person. If someone pays over MSRP, could be that they could afford it and it is worth it to them to do so. Don't like the price or think it is gouging? Walk away. Putting yourself in a financial hole or with no way out, that is where the danger/risk lies.

Sorry, it is hard to take your rant about unintelligent people seriously when you repeatedly use the word "stealership.". How about you put on your big boy pants and stop using a term only a middle schooler would find witty.

Well, to negotiate a price and have to finance is a story with a lot of unwritten nuance. Always best if you can afford the vehicle without financing and paying a lot in the end while it depreciates...

The people claiming it's stupid or wimpy to pay MSRP might not be tuned into the current allocation process with no inventory on the lots, and no true building to order.

Agreed on the "value" of extended warranties and reading the fine print.

As in life, you have to step back and look at the whole picture. Generalities are just that, and unless you walk in another person's shoes...

Peterson Toyota in Boise does sell at MSRP! We just moved to Bend, OR and I tried to swap my allocation to Kendall Toyota in Bend and those scumbags are charging ADM! Looks like Ill keep my Idaho allocation and never do business with Kendall.

During the next recession when dealers are desperate to sell cars remember the greedy dealers that charged ADM. Make em hurt!

MSRP on a non pro is a shit deal already. I'd be looking for discounts.
