I have a 95 tacoma 2wd 2.4l that I got for free, well the timing chain broke from the last owner and as I just got it apart the harmonic balancer, timing cover and the bottom timing gear broke. With the chain breaking there's the possibility of the valves breaking aswell which I am getting ready to take off and check out. So my idea is I found a 98 with a 2.4l in a junkyard and was wonder if all of those parts would interchange. Thanks you all in advance! 20220913_202800.jpg 20220913_174922.jpg

The engines are the same, but the accessories are not so much. Youll need the head from you 95 to work with a 98 engine since the 95 uses a distributor and the 98 doesn't have the hole for one.

I took the head off to look at the valves today and they look fine and not bent so no need for the head now, do you know anything about the timing cover? Could the 98 timing cover fit my 95?

3rz to 2Rz bebuilt block and new heads
Pre 98 heads have the distrib hanging off side of head......so hole there...
98 and on the heads need a cam sensor hole.....cause they dont have distirb anymore....
    Everything else should swap....

When harmonic balancer goes out.....if not fix timely.....it can do alot of damage....
crack time cover, destroy oil drive, bust those time gears, and worst of them all....
.....my fate.......wallowed out woodruff key slot.....destroying crank shaft.......

Unfortunately with those 3 belts....its not so easy to see/catch.....

Is this a common problem? I have a '96 with only 83K on it. Not a lot of miles - but 26 years!
