Majority of thieves are not really smart people to comprehend this fact. I would bet it happens more often than not, but it's not widely reported outside of the local news.

When they ripped out mine, they also ripped out the wiring harness for the o2 sensor. The entire harness must be replaced. Dealer has truck now and tells me that it’ll be another 1-2 weeks depending on how fast insurance approves the work and parts availability.

Mine got stollen on my previous Taco last year. Insurance covered it, but I was still out of pocket for my deductable. When I, to my unexpected surprise, bought my current 2012 truck late last year, I hit up RCI to see of they'd "custom" make me a trans skid with some cat protection. They informed me they had a cat protection add-on coming out in a few weeks, and I bought it ASAP. Is lightning likely to strike me twice? Probably not, but I sleep soundly at night (it was stollen in my apartment complex parking lot) and I also have functional skids otherwise.

The insurance deductable was a punch in the gut for me, but the biggest pain was being out of my truck for about 2.5 weeks while the insurance process worked, parts were ordered, and service was scheduled. I got a "free" rental sedan from my insurance for that time, but I'd prefer to be in my truck all day long.

If you don't have ramps to pull your truck up on for better clearance, just drive the truck up onto a curb, as that extra clearance is a big help. The hardest part about installing it is keeping from getting a "crick" in your neck while under the truck! I am glad I ordered this one from Talon, and also, that I just put some cover on there. It makes me feel a lot better, especially since I plan on traveling across the country later this year again. You should post pics here after you install it! Good Luck!

    Thanks for the tip!
I'm going to wait to install it mid October because I'm getting bottom of my truck sprayed with wool wax early next month. Don't want to be installing it twice.
    I will post pics then.

I don't think this is something to worry about. It seems like it's not really happening to too many people and not worth loosing sleep over.

Don't get me wrong, I know it does happen but I'm not going to loose sleep over it. I could go out and spend $$$ on a cover plate which may end up being a waste of money OR, wait till it actually happens and pay my deductible to get new cats.

Yeah it's a pain in the ass to get fixed but that's only if it actually happens.

Just wait, since posting this, I'll be the next guy who gets his stolen.

My buddy runs auto shop (a known chain).
They get a lot of calls about stolen catalytic converters. The issue is that you could be waiting for months, because there is a shortage of catalytic converters.

I don't think this is your intention but a shop that fixes these is going to be a sampling bias. It's not a representation of the population. If we're talking about dead bodies, the guy who works in a morgue sees a lot of them while the rest of us never see them.

I did a search for 4 and 6 cylinder Tacoma and it looks like their are lots in stock online.
