Hi all just wanting to see if this has come up for anyone in this Tacoma year it’s a 2000 SR5.

no previous issues or check engine lights on while I’m driving 40 down the road the engine just shut off, with no other sounds or issues. it didn’t sputter it didn’t struggle to run, it just completely shut off …like somebody turned off the key. rPMs dropped instantly to zero I coasted to a stop.

I have it in a shop but they haven’t had a chance to look at it and I just wanna see if you guys have thoughts.
All the power works the lights, Dash, radio, and it will crank cleanly but it won’t start.

Could be any one of a number of things. Fuel pump, crank or cam sensor, igniter etc. A diagnostic will point to the fix.
    CEL on ?

First thing they "should" do is put a fuel pressure gauge on it, but it's kinda difficult and requires and adapter so they'll probably shotgun parts at it. (hopefully not, but that's the way it is)

They said it was the internal fuse box.. that makes no sense to me but ok. A fuse yes, but the whole box?

    It’s possible. Yes.
Not at all the first thing I’d expect it to be though.

If you pay them to replace it. Ask them how confident they are that is the problem. And what happens if that doesn’t fix the problem.

Be nice about it, just kind of hint around that if that doesn’t fix it. You don’t really want to run up a bill throwing more parts at it.

JB1, the integration relay or the knee panel fuse box is all the same thing... most of the circuits that make the truck "run" go through that.

I was going to guess that the timing belt broke...

Sorry for the delay they called it a fuse panel not one of the standard fuse boxes but something directly connected to the ignition system apparently, it’s a discontinued part .. dealers did not have it, so they had to call around a bunch of junkyards to find a used one it took about a week but it works now…. Wish I had more info but at least it works.

Well.. haha.. now a year later and it happened again.
driving 50 and the car shut off like somebody turned the key off had to roll to the safe stop it would crank but wouldn’t start after that, assuming it’s the same problem. I went to the shop that did the repair of course they had to find a used part because they said they don’t make them anymore it doesn’t have a part number there is nothing aftermarket they could find. Huff…

if it is actually a "fuse panel" and it keeps happening, I'd start cleaning up and/or upgrading your grounds. sounds like an overcurrent issue that's melting stuff, but I don't think it'd be on any specific circuit or it'd just blow a fuse.

you could also size a fuse for the whole panel and put it on the feed wire. a little easier than going through all the grounds. won't fix the problem, but will keep the panel from failing.
