Are these safe to pull power off of? They are hot and pretty convenient. 20220917_210538.jpg

Thanks for the reply. Here's another look at where they are. I just assumed they were factory. I bought the truck used, So I have no idea maybe I'll undo them and see what turns off20220917_212245.jpg

Those are automatic reset thermal breakers. One is a 30 amp, one is a 40 amp. They should be water resistant, that style is often used for trolling motors.
They are not OE components. One wire from each breaker will go to the battery or other point of power. The other, you will have to trace to find out what it goes to.
I also see a non-waterproof relay for some accessory. If you keep it, consider replacing the relay and it's pigtail with a waterproof relay to prevent the relay from getting corrosion inside it which can lead to it activating without you flipping the switch.

Don't just go disconnecting stuff, risking a live wire to hang around.

Trace back where they go, not to mention any accessories that are not stock.

Disconnect any and all terminals from the battery before disconnecting anything else.

Look like auto reset breakers. On my truck they were recommended in the install guide for my trailer brake controller (iirc, it's late) and fuse the power to the trailer plug.

Circuit breakers for some after market circuits.

You could connect just fuse your circuit for your new load .Not really much different then any other source of system voltage.

It would be interesting to maybe know what the breakers provide voltage to it would suck to fry your ECM by mistake .

    This is my guess.

I had the same breakers I installed in my last vehicle for a brake controller.

If those are truly hot (direct line to positive battery terminal), I would not think that is the safest setup in the world.

Just me, but I don't like the idea of unshielded, unmarked, and easily accessible hot terminals. Any mechanic can potentially ruin both his and your day by dropping a tool.

Whatever that is, its overdue for a slightly safer rework/relocation.

Funny that did not stick out during the pre purchase inspections.

perhaps the seller removed the protection off the breakers for the next vehicle.

    Right?

One can easily google an image of a stock engine bay.

Even if you didn't google search to compare, many of those wires on one side is relatively new compared to the rest of the factory wires; makes it really stand out right when you look at it.

Looks more like a shade tree install to me. The classic "I know what it is, but didn't think to protect it it from the people who aren't me" wire job.

But I agree. Surprised the inspecting mechanic didn't mention it.

All kinds of After market wiring !! Tacoma Lust can strike even the stout of heart .

Then no telling some people never think that far ahead.

The truck may very well have been sold before the project was finished.

If you're ever bored, feel free to venture through my Land Cruiser thread.

First 10 pages or so will reveal all sorts of wiring and lights I pulled from my vehicle; I knew this beforehand as I inspected the vehicle more than once and sat on it for several days before making a decision.

I really hope to never become that bored.

Real world adventures over the last fifty years were quite enough.

I need to tell my Y2K story sometime!!
