A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
This is EXACTLY what I found in our home which was built in 1935. There was a butload of old double-edged blades in the wall between the studs.

A few bucks on drywall well worth opportunity for good inspection. My concern would be possible mold on back side of drywall.

For me it's a piece of mind thing.

Drywall on the other side of the wall was replaced not long ago by the previous owner. Its probably all good. There was no evidence of mold on the floor, just a water stain.

    No, it's all behind walls.
Somewhat. There was an interesting article in the local paper about it. If I can find a link, I'll post it.

Ehhh, if something better pops up (with public sewer no less) when the interest rates go back down this one is going up for sale...

But, the propane company would have to install the lines. I don't do gas and I don't think I could even get the permit doing that myself.

My wife bought a Marvin Integrity slider on Facebook Marketplace a few years ago…
Her-“Are we interested in this slider?”
    Me- “No thanks”
Her- “OK, they’re delivering it at 10”
In protest as much as just not being excited about replacing a basement slider, I’ve admittedly dragged my feet.
So now I’m sick of tripping over the panels in the basement. Time to get this done.
Remove old door, check square, flash opening, go to install new frame…nooooooo! Too big! How can a 6-8 6-0 patio slider be that different? Brands…old was a Hurd (now Sierra Pacific) and new is a Marvin Integrity. My bad for not checking.
Remove a whole bunch $$$ of flashing, change RO, reflash and reinstall. Need to flash exterior tomorrow and replace trim and siding but the lions share is done!D230F22A-5619-47A7-B3D0-7EE43032D02D.jpg8D0384AD-7B14-473A-A141-CB56C2C490F5.jpgA44E71FC-33B3-4B4E-863B-96BD58052B79.jpg

Trying to decide on painting the existing spindles or replace with metal or cable. Wood does not last like it used to.

I like the metal look over the cable look.

Second for metal rails, I just installed a bunch of TimberTech Impressions Express. Fast and easy and looks awesome. The horizontal cable rails can be tricky and frustrating but they look good when done. You can also get vertical cable rails in pre-assembled panels now, they look sharp.

Rails in the picture look to be in good condition. I would just put your stain/waterproofing product in a pump sprayer and apply it that way. Keep a little roller handy for hard to reach areas and drips. If product is too thick you could use an airless. Though the clean up might be a pain if product is oil based.

If you are looking to spend money, I would go with metal rails or glass. The horizontal cables are not safe if you have kids…especially if they like to climb. Just my opinion though.
