I have a 2010 Pre-Runner with the standard audio package. I found a 2018 JBL set with speakers, tweeter, sub, amp, and touchscreen head unit on Facebook market place for 10 dollars! So I bought them, obviously. Lol. Has any one installed the 3rd gen set in a standard 2nd gen? Would it be easier to buy aftermarket amps instead of making a wiring harness? Any thoughts are appreciated. 372CBD91-FFE3-463D-BDA8-2DAAC80E5261.jpg1DD9EFEA-5FCE-4EC1-8FDB-1754BDB9712B.jpg

Getting that in there is going to be a wiring nightmare. Plus, the front dash speakers are totally different from the 2nd gens so those aren't going to bolt into the stock location.

Your best bet is going to be to sell all that stuff (the head unit probably has some value on ebay, the speakers/sub are worth about what you paid unless you find the right person in a pinch who needs them and is willing to pay more), then go out and just get a full aftermarket setup. Since you have the non-JBL system now it makes upgrading pretty easy. Upgrading when you have the JBL system is more of a pain.

The headunit will fit if you are willing to hack your dash apart.

I found a 2019 oem setup on CL for 50$. Almost bought it until I searched around on here and found the answers to the questions you are asking. Ultimately decided against that route and will be purchasing a joying unit when mine craps out.

See the thread below for a successful 3rd gen to 2nd gen install and decide if the finished product is for you.

Yeah, I went ahead and listed them on eBay. I might buy a dash kit and hack it up incase it doesn’t work out haha
