Finally got both keys programmed and assembled. Bought some OEM donor keys off eBay for Transponder and Fob parts.

“H” key only. Plus you have to take into consideration how the guts are oriented

I can get Canadian whiskey at Costco also, which hardly seems fair when you can't even get beer.

    Thanks for the reply.

I didn't know what the H key was so I used my GoogleFu and found this.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8e0EfI9SHw

So I have to wonder, does Toyota actually produce two different types of Key Fobs for Tacomas? One for Manuals (no push button start) and one for Autos (with push button start)?

The obvious difference is the key sticking out of the one but other than that, is the rest of the fob shaped differently and the guts doesn't just drop in like the H key version?

At the end of the video there is a short segment about reusing the OEM key by grinding the end so it is squared off. If the guts are the same then I don't see any reason not to be able to grind the end off of any key, including my ARE cap lock key, or the tailgate key for those people that haven't done the $10 Pop-N-Lock mod yet.

I hate having any keys and right now I keep them in my console, but......... I guess even though I started driving before all this new fangled tech I am still a product of modern convenience.

Also, I don't mind asking the "stupid" questions others may not want to, and I'm way too old to worry about being uncool.

Yes. The manuals have a different key and fob guts than the auto.

The manual key is external cut type of key while the PTS/Auto keys are internal/grove cut key. They are in no way interchangeable as the tumbler and pin set-up are completely different for the two key types.

Additionally, it is not just a difference in the looks of the fob there are marked differences in layout and orientation of components. The RF chip is part of the auto fob internals while the rf chip is proximity powered and part of the key for the manuals.

What province are you in? No problem getting beer at the Costcos here in Alberta.

Those key fobs are annoying to carry since I try to go for a minimal carry but the fob ruins it for me
