800 lb weight capacity or an F-150 that seems like a big of a margin of error. I would expect a legal disclaimer to be added below that picture by the end of the week

Get the GFC my RSI EVOa is literally scheduled for delivery today after months of waiting. It has been a pretty piss poor experience-nothing to do with the retailer. If the GFC was available a month ago, I probably would have canceled my RSI order in favor of the GFC. Price point is about the same, product is likely better quality, lead times are MUCH better, and American Made.

Looks pretty good. There looks like seams some places that normally you would not want them like between the roof and space frame.

I have a deposit on the new Alucab Contour but I'm pretty interested in this new one from GFC. The price (once either are in Canada) are similar.

I like the relative simplicity of the doors on the GFC and that I can get it with no windows. I'll never sleep in a 5ft bed so I don't have any reason to look in or out. The translucent roof is a good idea. Like on a box-truck. Enough light to see.

Also intrigued by the colour options. Black always goes good but I'm going to do some photoshopping later to see how silver looks on Lunar Rock. It would match the silver 1Up bike rack I have which looks great against Lunar Rock.

yea idk. its a cool idea. im not super set on it. i want to be able to grab stuff from coolers in the bed through the rear window. its kind of boxy like a regular gfc, but if im going just cap then the curves on the rsi look kinda more in line with the rest of the tacoma body.

there probably isn't much difference between the topper and regular gfc, mainly price. would the topper and a separate rtt be the way to go?

kinda wanna hear from someone that gets one and uses it for a couple months

Maybe I'm misunderstanding... Why would you have any more trouble getting things out of a cooler vs any other topper?

    upload_2022-9-21_12-36-59.jpg

so if im driving and some friends are in the back seat, they cant reach through the window and grab something from the bed

Ah. I get ya. I was thinking the tailgate window.

I never have my cooler way up at the front of the bed like that. It's handy to reach through the window, I suppose, but it's the least accessible area if I'm not in the backseat.

But yeah... I'm fairly certain that window doesn't open.

depending on how long we go for, we'll take 2 coolers, a cheaper 50 qt filled with drinks and a smaller, more insulated cooler for food. the drink cooler usually goes closest to the cab and we just reach through the side so we dont have to lug it around or get too deep into it. first world problems for sure, but honestly the auto window in the rear was one of the bigger selling points of me going trd and not sr5

IMO, the biggest benefit of the camper setup is access through the bed and standing room.

I would only think the topper+RTT setup would be beneficial if you don't camp very much, and leave the tent off the majority of the time.

ive also heard the interior of the tent of a gfc is kind of tight? but it would make up for it if you can hang your legs into the bed i guess.

i have a tepui kukeman and its pretty spacious when unfolded. a pain to close in the cold though. a topper and an ikamper mini would have security in the bed, a big sleeping platform, and potential for a big awning or enclosure room. going gfc you would need a separate awning, which would probably be much easier to setup than an ikamper awning thing.

being caught out in the rain and snow a couple times, and once needing to pack up immediately to not get stuck at a higher elevation for days, i'm still trying to figure out what the best setup for me would be.

i do prefer to take my tent off in the winter too. some parking areas in ski towns/hotels have some low parking garages

i bet you could sell the EVOa for close to what you paid for it. And aren't the RSIs made in Texas now?

Not yet. They will be soon. Mine was built in South Africa. Apparently it sat on a boat in the Bahamas for 2 months. Shipping has been an absolute nightmare. I was told July delivery and here we are basically in October and I still don't have it. It was scheduled for delivery yesterday and guess what-It didn't make it out for delivery...

I think the Alucab Contour will be better than the GFC Topper. You can get the Contour without windows. To me the GFCT looks like an erector set, and in some ways it is, every part is serviceable they say. The Alucab will have much fewer seams and bolted joints to come loose or leak. I would guess the contour will be even lighter than the GFCT since the aluminum tubing will be less beefy than T slot aluminum GF uses.

When I placed a deposit on the Contour the only option was for solid side doors. The rear still had a window.

the explorer canopy from alu-cap looks very similar to the contour just doesn't have the windows and is a little cheaper.

    https://www.alu-cab.com/product/toyota-tacoma-contour-canopy-2/

kinda like rsi's adventure and sport differences?

on ok4wd it does show the contour with solid sides and not windows though

I'm pretty interested in this as a replacement for my Softopper, and as an alternative to a Leer 180 (and also as an alternative to locking tonneau/low rack/hardshell RTT - an option that i simultaneously love and hate, for a variety of reasons). Anyway, I'm waiting to hear back from GFC about the height over the cab*, bed-to-ceiling height, and whether or not the doors/windows are lockable/unlockable from the inside.

*We have a comically low carport at home, and many of the parking garages around here (including my doctor's office, my work, and the local hospital) have super low height limits, so this is a legit concern.
