Induction is the way. Boil water in seconds. Immediately holds whatever temp you set it at. Just have to have good ferrous cookware. Wife was not convinced until she used it. Now she wouldn't have anything else.

    Tell me about it…

Other than the Max Pack, this would be perfect

One of the Rivian Guides delivering my brother-in-law’s was downplaying the need for the Max Pack which was a little disconcerting.

WOW! Rivian R1T is only 50% more expensive than my loaded 2021 TRD sport. What a deal!

It is, but the overall cost of ownership might be close at the end of 10 years. At current fuel prices, I’ll spend $45-50K just in fuel by the end of ten years. Probably more.

You still have to pay for electricity though which isn’t cheap either. I think if you could get that Rivian at $75K then take $10K off in tax rebates you would probably come close to breaking even in 10 years vs buying a new Tacoma.

You do, be a lot cheaper though than gas currently. Imagine when EVs go more mainstream utility costs will increase. Another data point which will require more repairs? At 10 years mine should have 180-200K miles on it, it “shouldn’t” need any major repairs in that time frame at least how my last Toyotas have been.

The Rivian will end up costing you more, but by how much is speculation at this point.

It’s not really speculation. It’s pretty easy to figure out based on the mileage you do per year. You just need what you pay per kWH for electricity. Maintanence savings is minimal, $100 a year for oil changes. Electricity here in MA is probably more expensive than where you are but when I did the calculations a while ago it would be 17 years to break even. Note that the Rivian is not very energy efficient compared to other EVs.

    Because it doesnt offroad

I think you mean 100% more? I paid $36.5 for my fully loaded TRD OR in 2016

Dang you drive a lot. For me current cost of ownership not including insurance and registrations for 6 years has been $7,644. This includes all oil changes, maintenance and fuel.

after 10 years of driving, the purchase price of a Rivian is still 50% more than the total cost of ownership for my tacoma. Add in registration fees, insurance and even charging costs and the gap widens.

What I meant was, we don’t know how much utility/petroleum costs will fluctuate over the next 10 years, could get an “ok” guesstimate.

That and I am kinda doing 3 things at once this morning, half assing my responses. lol!

    Anyone estimating repair costs?

Tacoma parts post fender bender are plentiful and cheap.

Smash a Rivian bumper, windshield or have a goober sideswipe a mirror clean off...what's that gonna run you reckon?

Yep, getting ready roll 18K this week, and will had the truck a year October 8th. Be close to 19K by then after my trip to the Rainier area. Actually knocked 5-6K off my annual mileage when I moved my shop closer to the house. So it used to be more.

Our registration fees aren’t too bad here, they don’t go off of value like they did in AZ or worse CA. Insurance will have to check how much more the Rivian would be. 95% of charging would be done at home, so that annual cost would go way down compared to what I am shelling out now. I am guessing maybe the Rivian would be $10-15K more at the end of 10 years. Would have to sit down and crunch the numbers to be sure.

I am still only half awake, so not quite firing on all cylinders yet… lol! Or not all my battery cells are fully charged. Need to swing by the coffee shop with the cute baristas and get more brain fuel…

So parts are out there and ready to go at the 20 total service centers that cover the entire US?
