After 3 attempted thefts on my buddies 2021 4runner nightshade - he got an aftermarket alarm installed. he has to push a certain sequence of steering wheel buttons, and HVAC buttons to allow it to start. otherwise, it will not start, even if they reprogram the key. #2 it sends text messages / calls you if the doors are opened when it's alarmed (silent alarm). #3, if you are driving, and the door is open for more than 5 seconds, the next time you complete a full stop, it will shut off the truck completely (unless you do the button dance) - this is the prevent from carjackings (but allows the thief to get far enough away from you). It's getting crazy up here in Toronto...

Several decades ago I was asked by a lawyer to pattern a 12g shotgun with Remington #4 buckshot at various distances. The lawyer wanted to have a idea of the shot spread made from this particular round. His client had taken a shot with a pistol grip pump shotgun at a guy trying to steal his car. Only one pellet of the 27 #4 buckshot pellets had hit the would be car thief. It hit him in the head and lodged in his brain. It did not kill him but he was in a long term care facility. The client/defendant claimed he shot the car thief from over the roof of the car as the thief came at him. The police thought he shot at the thief from his front pouch some distance away. The guy who shot the car thief was facing some major charges. This was in a different state and I did not know the client's name and I never learned the outcome of the case.

I have decoy OBD ports in mine, actually. None are wired to fry stuff connected to them, but I think that's a nice idea. At least it'll slow them down or piss them off. Generic cables are cheap and easily strung throughout the cab.

Concerning car tracking devices. I know a prison guard who told of an inmate he had dealt with. This inmate was in prison because he placed a tracking device on a wealthy man's vehicle. He traced the guy's car and did a kidnapping of one of the guy's family members. He got paid the ransom. He demanded more and was told no. He again tracked the guy and ambushed him while he was in his car. Shot the guy through the windshield.

I didn’t even think about it until this thread. I’m definitely installing a decoy and extending the stock one somewhere else. The power part I’m 50/50. Would be worth it to toast a thieves usb port though.

could rig the power part so that it activates a latching relay to a 120db siren wired inside the car. probably behind the stereo where i'd be impossible to turn off without earplugs

Items are located in Lithuania. Shipping in Europe and UK takes around 4-10 working days and in USA or other countries about 7-14 working days.
    :spending:
Ordered, they take amex, mastercard and visa...good thing it isn't related to firearms, wouldn't want DHS freaking out over an international order...

inspector: "its wires and a siren connected to a red button! OMG!" ..cue 24 music

If people can track luggage with the FOBs like "TILE" and the apple tracking tags you can hide one in your vehicle. The issue in this part of the country is they are usually in a container within an hour and shipped out that night. They're not as good as GPS trackers.
