Hello and thanks for reading! I had a smashed cover on my 2014 driver side tail light which I replaced about a year ago. At the time, all of the lights worked perfectly. About a month ago, it was brought to my attention that when my headlights are on, my brake lights (both sides) stay on until I brake, at which point they turn off. I reconnected the spliced wires on the driver side light, and removed the trailer light connector, nothing changed. Any ideas?

At first glance I notice that doesn't look like a good solid reliable connection.

IIRC the brake is ground switched by the pedal plunger stop light switch and since your brakes are now behaving inverse to original function I suspect you are grounding the circuit somewhere you shouldn't be and when grounding it with the pedal switch it's creating a short circuit or a ground loop that's cutting out the lights.

I would start by cleaning up, soldering, and heat shrinking any of those wrapped and taped hack splices and check up and down the wiring harness for further tampering, bare wire, or nicks/frays/splices/shorts.

If that doesn't solve it I would next remove anything aftermarket and repair the harness back to original as best as possible eliminating any misbehaving cheap aftermarket crap.
