    Hi everyone,

First off thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Today I was driving on the freeway and I attempted a lane change when all of a sudden my truck started to accelerate. I did not touch the gas pedal in this situation. Randomly, it seems, it started to accelerate while my foot was hovering above the brake pedal. Anyone experience anything like this before? I tried searching but couldn't find anything on this. It was the weirdest feeling as I was preparing to press the brakes due to upcoming traffic in the lane I was attempting to switch to. I don't know if this is an issue specific to my truck or if others have experienced this as well. So the purpose of this post is to gauge for myself if this is something specific to my truck or perhaps others have experienced this as well.

Cruise control was not engaged. It was a short trip and it was in a part of the freeway where I was merging from one freeway to another. Cruise control was 100% not engaged. I also had not tapped the throttle for it to be a down shift situation or something. Believe me I understand mechanics. This wasn't a "user error" related issue. If I wasn't 100% sure it was unintended acceleration, I would not post about it as such. Searching more thoroughly through Google, it seems this is in fact a problem others have experienced as well and I wouldn't be the first. My pedal was not stuck on the mat either. And to clarify for those that assume this is a Friday troll post, I LOVE MY TRUCK. Even with this issue, I wouldn't say Tacomas are unreliable or anything of the sort. They are fine trucks, and I absolutely adore mine. I didn't post this to bash on Toyotas or Tacomas.

I recall Toyota had similar issues with the Prius, IIRC. I think there was a massive $$ lawsuit. You could get rich on this!

Lol, not trying to get rich off this. Just want to make sure my truck is okay to drive as I occasionally allow the wife to take it to work on Saturdays. My research on google showed that some Corrollas seemed to have the issue and I found a thread about it regarding a 2014 Tacoma.

No sir, no cruise control of any kind was engaged. My first instinct after stepping on the brakes was to check for exactly that. Which is why I can say with 100% certainty without a doubt that cruise control was not engaged.

It's AI. Elon warned us. Toyotas are becoming self aware. Never speak I'll of the Taco while in its presence.

Sounds like a definite squawk to your dealer is in order.

Definitely plan on mentioning it to the dealer. However, I'm pretty certain they will say they were unable to reproduce the issue. I say this because I myself haven't been able to reproduce it since it happened in the morning today. I even drove around aimlessly for 30 minutes after to see if it would do it again, and it didn't yet.

There were a few threads discussing this exact issue, which got out of hand, unfortunately.

I have yet to personally experience this issue, but I imagine freeze frame data could be pulled using Techstream. I'd see if any members on here local to you have Techstream installed and are willing to pull that data. Same for the dealer. Until then, we can only speculate.

All dealer installed. Spacer lift and 285s and t4r wheels. The trail edition boxes are still there as well. I installed a cover for the bed as well.

Only real mod I've done is the fog lights which I installed about a year ago.

Sure it wasn’t that weird hard downshift feeling these trucks do sometimes where it can “lunge” forward a bit rather suddenly while slowing down? Sort of an engine braking thing… like locking/unlocking torque converter type feeling. I find these trucks have trouble with intended acceleration rather than unintended lol. I, too really like my truck and take your concern seriously. Hope it’s easily resolved.
