Retrofit and BHLM Headlights

I just removed the turn signal covers from the option list. Looking like atleast 3-4 of y’all have come forward with fading issues, there’s probably a couple more out there (out of atleast 100+) so I guess it’s time to pull the plug on them. Unfortunately that’s the game we play trying to push the limit on customization and using parts and material that weren’t necessarily designed to live inside a headlight.

 

That's too bad. It was a very nice splash of color.

 

For what it’s worth, my smoked ones are holding up fine in the Hawaiian sun. Have had them for the last 2-3 years. Granted it’s parked in the shade under our carport when at home. But so far still looking great.

 

That’s great to hear, I think 90%+ of them are out there with no issues. I’ll probably still do them if someone asks and is okay with the risk, but I can’t ignore the fact that some people have had an issue.

 

I have oem headlights here in stock ready to go if anyone is wanting a custom build!

I'm looking to do this. I'm not much for making modifications for the sake of aesthetics, but my son had this done by you and it does look really nice and he hasn't had any issues.

I'm in NJ and I could drop off/pick up the lights. Have an SR, so you're going to need the lights off my truck. I'm looking for the following:
1. Standard BHLM (no retrofits or anything crazy.... stock SR internals are fine)
2. I want to add the turnsignal/DRL Grilles (my lights dont appear to have them)
3. Amber/stock sidemarker
4. Acrylic amber turn signal cover/drl (gonna roll the dice and hope they don't fade... hopefully these dont impede light output)

The front end is almost chrome free! BHLM for the mod for the win! No lie, @no vtec 4me does some sick work. They were shipped quickly and packaged well without any issues. This things look amazing. The slight blue in the retrofitted 5.0 D2S add some nice depth.

I sent him some messages to help with install and he was super helpful. You would think a guy with a robotics engineering degree could keep from plugging connectors in backwards, but you'd be wrong. It probably doesn't help when I can't remember what my own mods are on the truck.

I'll update with some pictures of light output this evening.

11/10. Would recommend for all lighting needs.




Here you can see the low beam, morimoto D2S 5.0. Good light projection, with a super clean cut off. I do believe mine are aimed a bit low. The light cuts off at about 40 paces, 120 or so meters I would guess.



Here you can see the high beams of the D2S and the auxbeam bulbs in the reflector working together. That dark spot in the middle is from a slight hump in the trail, not the headlights.


I will also need some brighter turn signal bulbs. I like the smoke look, but need more output for them to be seen a little better. I ran into a similar issue tinting my taillights.

I have an SR with no grilles in the housings.

I'll be getting a standard BHLM, hopefully having @no vtec 4me add black grilles along with amber acrylic. Pics to follow....should make my black truck look a smidge better up front... my son already had his done so I know what kind of quality I can expect.

I'll also be doing the h11 to h9 low beam bulb conversion as well.

 

Anyone here have the acrylic over the DRL/turnsignal? Just wondering if it impedes the light output?

 

Ive had the acrylic amber turn signal covers on my BHLM for a little over a year now.

No impeding light output, but like others have mentioned the color has faded back to a yellowish clear. (They've been PPF protected since install and I wax the ppf every few months)

 

Hmmmm. Maybe I'll forego the acrylic? I wanted amber to match the amber on the side markers....if it turns yellow I'll just skip it

 

I think the smoke covers have been fine, it's just the amber that have fading issues.

 

I'm probably going to forego the acrylic. I want amber... smoke serves no purpose...my turnsignals are also my DRL... I have an SR

He dropped these off Friday night and picked them up Sunday morning. I can do quick turn arounds like this for any of you local guys!

 

Thanks Kevin! What else can I say that anyone else hasn't. Decided to roll the dice on the Acrylic Amber Turn Signal. Hopefully it holds color. Headlights look factory...the seal is nice. Clean and professional work, good paint job.....and Kevin was able to hook me up with the turn signal Grilles (My truck didn't have em').

This is a purely aesthetic mod. I been wanting to do this for 2 years, but honestly didn't want to spend the money for looks..... After my son had Kevin do his last year the bug just got worse.

Bumper pulled back and zip tied, lights off to Kevin. This gave me an opportunity to clean up under the hood a little bit


Decided to move my Phillips H11 +60's from the Low Beams to the Fog Lamp
Also decided to do the Phillips German H9 Low Beam Upgrade ---We'll see how this works.?! Bulbs modified with a scalpel.



This also provided an opportunity for me to clean up the faded and chipped fog lights and lay down some new Transparent Stained Glass Paint..


Here's a good look at the type of work we're looking at from @no vtec 4me ... the paintjob is flawless, the seal is clean, and they look awesome.. like brand new.
