…Don’t recommend trading up to that electric truck.

Roughly under 1/2 range pulling an empty, aluminum trailer:ballchain:

That’s a well known fact, just like towing with any vehicle cuts the range by close to half.

Problem isn’t that fact. It’s having the usually hours required or even a place to “fill” up that lightning vs. the 5 min at a gas station right off any highway off ramp.

Already been posted a few times, basically it has gremlins like all first model year vehicles.

The lightning is a gimmick still, no one can buy one anyways.

People just want to see EV fail. Nothing new.

It’s easy to find an EV charge station and takes about 45 minutes to go from 15-80% charge on a DC charger. Nowhere near as convenient as a quick gas station fill certainly but at least get your facts straight.

Isn't that at 50k Watts? We were just told by our Woke Commandante NOT to charge vehicles at night.

People that argue for the demise of the electric car think in one dimension as if the technology is static and will stay that way for decades.
There are some amazing break throughs on the horizon that will be game changers over the next 5-10 years.
Batteries that are currently out there are recyclable. However, the industry is currently not there to support it. As time goes on recycling will be the future.
Tesla currently recycles its old batteries into the home wall technology. Recycled batteries are being used to replace defective batteries under warranty by Tesla. Still expensive to purchase but a hell of a lot lower in price than a new one.

Coin cells != Group 24F Automotive Batteries. Just because a scaled down proof of concept shows promise does not mean it will scale to something larger. 10,000 cycles is shit. Can you imagine having to invest in a new set of batteries for your vehicle after 10,000 cycles? Hell to the no. We are a hell of a lot further out than 5-10 years but I agree that the possibilities are exciting. Look at how long solar has been around (~20 years) and researchers are still trying to break 22.8% efficiency and years ago it was touted as "this will change EVERYTHING" and "every home will have this in 5-10 years." Ya, no. It was just to get investors to part with $ for startups that went bankrupt shortly thereafter. Same thing happening here.

Depending on the vehicle they are installed in 10,000 full cycles is more than 400k miles driven. That’s pretty comparable to when a normal ICE vehicle is needing a new engine and major repairs, if it’s even still on the road.

I saw a regular cab F450 6.7 diesel pulling a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer with a shipping container sitting on it the other day. It was a nice truck, the only thing I could think was that truck's MSRP is less than the Lightning.

Not everyone one who buys a Lightning nedds to tow a container, but why buy a Lightning if you tow often?

I have never been that into RC cars, but the gas powered ones seemed to be more desirable than the battery powered ones.

It’s all a trade off. A base model F450 2wd is cheaper than a Lightning and a great towing tool with a terrible ride when empty, cheap no frills interior, no interior space for passengers and is a pain to drive in a city. The Lightning can’t tow as much/as far but carries five people comfortably with all the interior doodads you could want in a daily driver truck. Different tools for entirely different purposes.

This one happened to be an XLT, so it at least had the padded arm rests on the doors. lol

You are right it's a trade off, so a gas F-150 or F-250 super crew could haul 5 or 6 people comfortably tow more than a lighting, and probably get way better range in the process.

For me, I'll buy an electric truck, when it can do the things I'm used to a gas powered truck doing.....

Go fast, getting decent milage, Tow with decent milage, go as far as I do now, fuel up as quickly as I do now.

    It's that simple.

I personally have zero use for electric trucks. Because I actually haul stuff.
