@MESO any idea when you will have some racks and handle retention kits in stock again?

    Fellas,
I already reached out to @MESO on this one via the support email. In the meantime, any of you have any experience with stripped jacknuts on your racks? I have the sunroof model. Installed about a year ago. No items attached to the molle/no extra weight. About a week ago I noticed a rattling and pinpointed it to the rack. When I checked, one of the screws/bolts had come loose from the jacknut. Upon further review, it is the jacknut thread that is toast.

Any good or easy way to replace the jacknut? Not having any luck removing it so far. If not, any way to repair as is. I have a trip coming up where I’ll need the rack to carry weight and that just won’t happen as is.

The jack nuts are very soft metal that can break apart and fall into peices pretty easily (probably the same reason it's stripped out).

When I removed my rack, I simply threaded one of the bolts a few turns into the jacknut, and wiggled it around with a pair of pliers until the jacknut broke apart. It'll break the front part away from the rear part, and if you're lucky, you can use needle nose pliers to fish the back part out of the hole. On most of mine, the back part fell down inside and was unrecoverable. At first I was worried about that, but I never hear them rattling around while driving or anything.

This is very helpful! Thank you for this. @MESO replied and said that they had never heard of a jack nut stripping on their racks. Their recommendation was to drill out the jack nut. Just as you mentioned my fear was that I would lose a bit of the nut in the roof and then I would have a whole new rattle problem. Good to new you haven’t experienced that.

UPDATE: Spoke to Austin @MESO. He said they haven’t had another case of the jack but stripping. (I’m the lucky one :)) He offered to replace the jack nut but unfortunately they don’t currently have any in stock. The other option was to source locally but after a couple trips to NAPA, Autozone, Ace, Home Depot, and finally Lowe’s they don’t seem to stock them either.

Here’s the question: Does anyone know a relatively inexpensive way to source one of these? (Jack nut = M6 x 1mm, 18.6mm long)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Had to take rack down because it was squeaking too bad without that nut in.

i bought my rack used and it didn't come with the jack nuts. i just ordered some jack nuts on ebay. m6x1.0 long. not sure if its the correct size to use but took a chance.

try looking up "swordfish zinc plated jack nut" you can choose the thread pitch m6x1.0 short or long version. i chose long because i think the short one is to short.

if anything i can measure it when it arrives and send you a couple if needed.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I used a jack nut identical to the MeSo supplied nuts for another application and even used the MeSo install tool that came with the panel. I was able to source the jacknuts at my local Ace Hardware in the library of those skinny-ass plastic bins of shit. If you get stuck, ping me, I have some here if I can locate them during my hideous move to a new house. o_O

Mostly pouches that hold first aid items, charging cables and maybe a rolled up fleece jacket and a rolled up blanket at times.

You never know when you’ll have to do some emergency shredding. EMPs are always a possibility these days.

Has anyone had the issue where the jacknut is too big? I went around and they don't fit.

Can you squeeze the nut a little thinner, still leaving a slight bend so it expands once tightening begins?
