Wow! I wonder why someone had to splice all those wires. I very bad splice job considering those wires can be exposed to wet conditions. It would be best to replace those splices with solder and heat shrink tubing. Looks like it's only a matter of time before the other splices fail.

    Congrats on the find.
Toyota made a such good job on building this truck and some "Ford mechanic " fucked it up so bad. It is beyond my imagination why people who have no clue about electrical standards modify such sensitive "organs" as wiring. These type of splice do not belong outside of the cabin as they are not waterproof.

I agree that all these splices should be removed (including your twist connector that belongs to house not a car) and be either crimpped or soldered together and waterproofed. I prefer crimp tubes over soldering even that requires much more work and specialised crimp tool. I described "my way" in my build thread where I modified corner lights to polarity switchback LED. But soldering is OK as long as the spot where the hard solder ends and flexible coper starts is enforced in such way that will not bend. Otherwise the copper will brake over time in the spot where soldering "blob" starts. Two layers of heat shrink tube should be enough.

Awesome to hear hermano!! So glad you found it and some good advice above about correcting those connections with some proper solder and shrink wrap or proper connectors/splices

Yeah those connectors look like they should work. Be sure to to heat the shrinkwrap tubing at the end and you should be golden, ponyboy....(great 80s movie reference:D)

Resurrecting an ancient thread to shout THANK YOU @Actionjackson and bump this for future victims. Stumbled on this thread today searching for brake light issues, and I think you just saved me from setting my truck on fire (see photo). Yes, those are scorch marks above it.

Same exact symptoms as you: brake lights not working, left arrow for turn strangely glowing with lights on. This trailer harness has been installed for about 20 years. No more.

All is well now. Harness is cut out and wires are nut/capped. Everything works great again. And I am not on fire. Many thanks for typing this post, you saved my ass.
