Some of this Some of that
Last fall I sold my 1st gen double cab and bought a 15 xtra cab. For me it has been great, I miss the cab space of the double cab, but it’s not the end of the world. The long bed on xtra cab is pretty good to have. 2nd gen has more power and rides smoother imo. I’m a fan of the head unit and back up camera on the 15’ for sure, they are very well put together trucks

Agreed. I can't believe the things I've seen people do to 30K trucks on TW.

In our family, we have the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Tacomas and the 2nd Gen does ride better than the 1st. It's definitely more comfortable, stock for stock. I think it would be worth the switch.

    I've had a 1999 4Runner, a 2019 TRD OR Tacoma & now a 2014 TRD OR. I know the 1999 4R isn't the same as a 1st gen Taco, but it has the same motor & tranny combo so I figured I'd throw my $0.02 in.

IMO the 4.0L 1GR-FE is the best performing motor in the lineup. Smoother, better torque, dead nuts reliable & super simple to work on. The 2nd Gen Tacoma is the best combination of Toyota spartan simplicity & modern technology and really does span the gap in technology & performance between the 1st & 3rd gen Tacomas. I think it'd be worth the upgrade for you.

Yea it is! And as mentioned, lower it if it's not too much trouble but I don't have experience either way. I would think reversing the lift and less aggressive tires the ride and maybe even gas mileage would improve.

as opposed to what, the sweet old lady who put 100k on her camry but only changed the only the first 30k miles? the manual car with low miles which the seller's had their kids learn how to drive stick on?

well built vehicles can take being driven hard, what matters more is the owner putting in the maintenance and care
