Truck downshifts when applying brakes downhill

    I thought DAC was only for off-roading in 4lo.

    regardless, lots of autos ive driven of different makes and models have always had some sort of downhill grade shift logic. Generally needs to be a long downhill though and constant braking.

    My Ford does it, but only when in "Tow/Haul" mode. I've never found it to be a problem with my Tacoma.

    i travel frequently on a county road that has five miles of nine percent grade... i am fortunate the tacoma transmission automatically downshifts when i tap the brakes... better to take things slow... it saves on the extra braking especially on the curves... i've seen other drivers riding their brakes ... definitely smelling the brake dust fumes... overheating brake components and boiling the brake fluid become a possibility...

    It’s a great feature. IIRC the ECU shuts down the fuel injectors so the motor is just a giant air compressor running off gravity that bleeds off energy.
